About the Role:
A key role within the ART, responsible for the product strategy and roadmap for one of the Payments Services M-Pesa development squads working within a scaled agile framework (SAFe) model. You will be accountable for the DIGITAL MTO, IMT portfolio across all markets, ensuring alignment with business objectives and customer needs.
Lead M-Pesa to becoming the largest Fintech and Digital ecosystem in Africa. Enable a transformation of the customer experience through launching Digital applications and touchpoints. Play a pivotal role as a M-Pesa Product Manager through engaging market teams and customers with the aim to drive adoption, engagement and loyalty across our Digital channels.
You’ll be involved in the design of new products and features, setting commercial priorities with engineering teams and collaborating with Product Owners across the group. Your responsibilities will include championing the digital transformation of M-Pesa as we prepare for millions of our customers and merchants to transition from feature phones to smartphones. This includes bringing the voice of the customer, industry trends and design thinking to the M-Pesa app and actively engaging and influencing key internal and external stakeholders.
Working across multiple teams you’ll be responsible for go to market launches, working with local teams on how to promote new features and products. You’ll be able to work in agile development framework engaging Product Owners and developers while also supporting business led initiatives such as marketing campaigns and loyalty programs.
Responsibilities:
Champion Product Strategy & Execution:
- Collaborate closely with the commercial leadership team and markets to deliver the vision for the IMT ART.
- Drive the product roadmap, incorporating research to create transformative products.
- Advocate for customers, ensuring a superior customer experience.
- Rally product creation teams to achieve timely results.
- Operate within an agile development framework, engaging with Product Owners and developers, while also supporting business-led initiatives such as loyalty programs.
Focus on Execution of Releases to Drive Revenue:
- Co-develop launch and go-to-market plans with local teams to drive uptake and engagement.
- Provide strategic support on the ART strategy and business cases.
- Drive commercial rationalization of the roadmap and features.
Market Analysis & Insights:
- Conduct market research and analysis to identify customer needs, market trends, and competitive landscape.
- Use insights to inform product strategy and development, ensuring M-Pesa remains a market leader.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, design, marketing, and sales, to deliver high-quality products.
- Foster a collaborative environment that encourages the exchange of ideas and innovation.
- Work closely with the markets to deliver innovative products.
Performance Tracking & Optimization:
- Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure product success and identify areas for improvement.
- Ensure market alignment and drive market IMT key focus areas to deliver YoY growth across all KPIs.
- Use data-driven decision-making to optimize product performance and user experience.
Risk Management:
- Identify potential risks and challenges in the product development process and develop mitigation strategies.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies.
Product Lifecycle Management:
- Manage the entire product lifecycle, from ideation to launch and beyond, ensuring continuous improvement and iteration.
- Develop and maintain product documentation, including specifications, roadmaps, and release notes.
Innovation & Growth:
- Identify opportunities for innovation and growth within the digital financial services space.
- Champion new ideas and initiatives that align with M-Pesa’s mission and vision.
Core competencies, knowledge and experience:
- Years of professional experience with at least 2 years of product management role, preferably in the fintech or digital financial services sector.
- Demonstrated leadership skills, with experience leading cross-functional teams.
- Experience in developing products with a focus on customer needs and user experience.
- Strong market research and analysis skills, with experience using insights to drive product strategy.
- Experience managing stakeholders at all levels, with strong communication and influencing skills.
- Comfortable with both commercial and web analytics to measure product performance
- Strong knowledge of mobile money, fintech and financial services experience with emerging market consumers, and multicultural sensitivity.
Technical / professional qualifications:
Educational Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree: A bachelor’s degree in business, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is essential.
- Master’s Degree: An MBA or a master’s degree in a related field is advantageous.
Technical Qualifications:
- Product Management Certification: Certifications from recognized bodies (e.g., Certified Safe Agile Product Owner, etc) can be beneficial.
- Safe Agile Methodologies: Strong understanding of Safe Agile methodologies, with experience in agile development frameworks.
- Data Analysis Tools: Proficiency in data analysis tools and techniques, with the ability to interpret complex data sets.
- Technical Acumen: Ability to understand and engage in discussions about technical concepts, and to collaborate with engineering teams
