About the Role

The Regional Business Manager – Mountain Region will spearhead Sun King’s direct distribution business under the EasyBuy model. This business unit is responsible for selling solar energy products through door-to-door sales by a robust agent network. EasyBuy enables customers to purchase products in affordable installments, making solar energy more accessible to underserved communities.

As the Regional Business Manager, you will be accountable for driving sales, improving collections, and managing all regional operations. You will be responsible for managing and mentoring a team that includes Area Business Managers, Sun King Store Executives, and Field Sales Executives.

You will report directly to the Zonal Business Manager and work from an onsite location within the Mountain region of Kenya.

Key Responsibilities

1. Team Management and Leadership

  • Recruit, train, and motivate a high-performing regional team comprising Area Business Managers (ABMs), Sun King Store Executives, and Field Sales Executives.
  • Foster a disciplined, ethical, and customer-oriented culture within the team.
  • Set clear expectations for all team members and ensure adherence to business processes.
  • Implement a structured performance management system, recognizing top performers and addressing underperformance proactively.

2. Training and Development

  • Conduct comprehensive training sessions for Area Business Managers on sales, collections, logistics, product knowledge, and technical issues.
  • Guide ABMs on professional conduct and integrity in customer interactions.
  • Reinforce training through field visits, live demonstrations, and scenario-based learning.

3. Operational Oversight and Sales Support

  • Provide daily guidance to the team on tasks, sales targets, collection strategies, and territory management.
  • Ensure that all Field Sales Executives understand their sales routes and customer engagement strategies.
  • Be readily available to resolve team queries and customer concerns on the ground.

4. Field Visits and Joint Sales

  • Conduct weekly field visits with ABMs and top Field Sales Executives.
  • Accompany new ABMs during their first ten sales to provide hands-on mentorship.
  • Engage in joint fieldwork for on-the-job training, community outreach, and customer engagement.

5. Target Achievement and Performance Monitoring

  • Achieve or surpass monthly sales and collection targets set with the Zonal Business Manager.
  • Monitor key performance indicators across the region and provide timely reports.
  • Track daily sales, recruitment efforts, new market launches, and customer resolution metrics.

6. Field Sales Process Management

  • Regularly review sales and collection data with ABMs and implement corrective actions.
  • Promote area and customer profiling to optimize sales coverage and collection efficiency.
  • Take ownership of debt management through structured follow-ups and repossession processes when necessary.

7. Market Analysis and Competitive Strategy

  • Remain attuned to market dynamics, competitor activities, and customer feedback.
  • Develop and implement strategies to retain market leadership and strengthen Sun King’s brand position in the region.

8. Customer Service and Issue Resolution

  • Guarantee prompt and satisfactory resolution of customer issues including product delivery, installation, training, and warranty claims.
  • Establish a 24-hour resolution policy for all customer-related problems in coordination with Energy Officers.

9. Marketing and Resource Allocation

  • Oversee regional marketing campaigns, activations, and visibility efforts to support sales goals.
  • Manage marketing and operational costs including smartphone allocations, supply chain needs, and store upkeep to ensure efficient use of resources.

10. Review and Reporting Mechanisms

  • Ensure ABMs conduct routine performance reviews and team meetings.
  • Attend or conduct random field visits to monitor adherence to sales processes and service standards.
  • Promote team morale by recognizing outstanding performance and fostering a sense of purpose and achievement.

Desired Profile

  • Hold a degree in Business or a related field.
  • Bring at least six years of experience in sales, ideally in a direct distribution or consumer-facing model.
  • Have advanced computer literacy, especially in Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership skills and an ability to energize large, geographically dispersed teams.
  • Are strategic thinkers with strong organizational and planning abilities.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills to build lasting relationships with both internal teams and external stakeholders.
