About the Role

The Regional Business Manager will be responsible for overseeing and accelerating sales, collections, and business operations within the North Coast region. The manager will lead and develop a large field-based sales network responsible for direct distribution of Sun King’s solar products, ensuring effective implementation of the EasyBuy model and optimal team performance.

This role involves extensive field engagement, rigorous performance management, and an unwavering focus on customer satisfaction and brand development.


Key Responsibilities

1. Team Leadership and Development

  • Recruit, develop, retain, and motivate the regional team, including Area Business Managers (ABMs), Sun King Store Executives, and Field Sales Executives (FSEs).
  • Establish a high-performance culture that values process orientation, discipline, ethics, and customer centricity.
  • Provide continuous mentorship and ensure all team members are well aligned with company objectives and customer needs.
  • Support the professional growth of Area Business Managers by offering structured training across sales, collections, logistics, technical knowledge, and product understanding.

2. Operational Clarity and Role Definition

  • Provide day-to-day task clarity for ABMs, Regional Mentors, and Store Executives, including detailed expectations on routes, targets, sales approaches, and customer query management.
  • Ensure each Field Sales Executive understands the territory, product knowledge, and troubleshooting guidelines to deliver a seamless customer experience.

3. Field Engagement and Sales Execution

  • Conduct weekly meetings or joint field visits with each Area Business Manager and top-performing Field Sales Executives in every area.
  • Personally oversee the first ten sales in any newly launched area to ensure effective onboarding and understanding of sales and collection processes.
  • Lead by example during joint fieldwork by attending market activations, SACCO meetings, community group sessions, and local events to support team sales efforts.

4. Target Achievement and Performance Monitoring

  • Set monthly sales and collections targets by the 2nd of each month, then track and drive consistent performance to meet or exceed goals.
  • Provide timely reports including daily and weekly updates on sales volumes, FSE recruitment, customer concerns, and preparations for launching new areas.

5. Sales Process Management and Training

  • Oversee daily performance reviews with Area Business Managers to identify gaps and deliver training that enhances collections and field effectiveness.
  • Emphasize proactive customer profiling, systematic collection follow-ups, issue resolution, and system repossession in cases of prolonged default.

6. Market Intelligence and Brand Development

  • Monitor regional market dynamics, including competitor activity, and implement strategies that enhance Sun King’s competitive advantage.
  • Foster strong relationships within the local business ecosystem to strengthen Sun King’s brand and protect its market share.

7. Customer Service Excellence

  • Ensure that all customer-facing activities meet world-class service standards, including product delivery, usage training, payment assistance, installations, and after-sales support.
  • Establish clear communication channels between Energy Officers and customers to ensure that all complaints or service issues are resolved within 24 hours.

8. Marketing and Cost Control

  • Coordinate the distribution of marketing resources and equipment (e.g., smartphones) in a cost-effective manner.
  • Optimize returns on investment across marketing campaigns, supply chain activities, store maintenance, and equipment usage.

9. Oversight and Compliance

  • Monitor and participate in Area Business Manager-led meetings with Energy Officers to evaluate the effectiveness of the sales strategy.
  • Conduct unannounced visits to field operations to maintain high standards and consistency across teams.
  • Recognize and reward high-performing individuals to cultivate a motivated and performance-oriented environment.

Candidate Profile

The successful candidate will bring strong managerial skills, a passion for impact-focused business, and a track record of delivering results. The following attributes will help ensure success in this role:

  • A degree in a business-related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of six years of hands-on experience in sales, preferably in a field-based distribution environment.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, particularly Excel and PowerPoint, for performance tracking and reporting.
  • Strong people management and motivational skills with experience leading large teams.
  • Highly organized, strategic thinker with a strong grasp of planning and prioritization.
  • Capacity to think innovatively, execute cost-effectively, and visualize the long-term implications of business decisions.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to coach, support, and develop others.
  • A customer-first mindset with a proven ability to deliver exceptional service and operational excellence.
