Overview of the Role
The Regional Business Manager (RBM) is a crucial leadership role responsible for overseeing sales, collections, and full business operations within the assigned region under Sun King’s “EasyBuy” model — a pay-as-you-go financing system for solar products. The RBM manages a regional network of Area Business Managers, Sun King Store Executives, and Field Sales Executives, all of whom work together to make clean solar energy accessible to underserved populations.
The role demands an individual who can simultaneously lead a large team, uphold customer service excellence, drive sales and collections, and innovate in the face of changing market dynamics. The RBM is ultimately accountable for sustaining and scaling the regional business in a profitable and mission-driven manner.
Key Responsibilities
1. Leadership and People Management
- Recruit, retain, and inspire a high-performing regional team comprising Area Business Managers, Store Executives, and Field Sales Executives.
- Cultivate a culture of discipline, accountability, and customer-first thinking.
- Conduct regular performance assessments, coaching, and mentoring.
- Recognize and reward exceptional performance to ensure motivation and engagement across all levels.
2. Training and Development
- Provide continuous training to Area Business Managers covering sales, collections, technical knowledge, logistics, inventory, and customer engagement.
- Ensure all team members demonstrate integrity, professionalism, and an in-depth understanding of Sun King’s products and business model.
- Maintain alignment between field operations and company values, policies, and strategic goals.
3. Operational Clarity and Execution
- Provide precise role clarity to Area Business Managers and their teams.
- Define clear daily targets, routes, sales expectations, and customer support protocols.
- Facilitate the onboarding of new Area Business Managers through direct involvement in their first ten sales.
- Set up accessible communication channels for on-ground teams to escalate issues and receive real-time support.
4. Field Engagement and Visibility
- Maintain weekly in-person or virtual touchpoints with Area Business Managers and the region’s top-performing Field Sales Executives.
- Conduct joint fieldwork and sales demos to reinforce best practices and boost engagement.
- Organize activations in community gatherings such as SACCOs, retail markets, and churches to drive group sales and brand awareness.
5. Sales and Collections Performance
- Meet or exceed monthly sales and collections targets agreed upon with the Zonal Business Manager.
- Monitor progress daily and provide regular reports on KPIs such as customer complaints, recruitment efforts, and sales forecasts.
- Implement structured follow-up systems for collections, including area profiling, personalized customer outreach, and system repossession (when necessary).
6. Process and Compliance Oversight
- Ensure adherence to established field sales and operational protocols.
- Conduct random visits to retail centers and field locations to validate quality control and compliance.
- Facilitate table meetings led by Area Business Managers to review metrics, performance challenges, and continuous improvement plans.
7. Customer Experience and After-Sales Support
- Resolve product delivery, payment guidance, installation, and warranty-related issues within 24 hours through effective delegation and escalation processes.
- Equip Energy Officers with the tools, guidelines, and support needed to serve customers promptly and professionally.
8. Market Intelligence and Brand Stewardship
- Keep track of competitor activities and customer sentiments within the region.
- Liaise with internal teams to proactively defend and expand Sun King’s market share.
- Represent Sun King as a premier brand for solar energy in the local market through consistent customer engagement and brand visibility initiatives.
9. Cost Control and Resource Management
- Manage the allocation of marketing and operational resources such as smartphones and promotional materials.
- Ensure maximum return on investment through effective budgeting, forecasting, and expenditure tracking.
