About the Role

The TLB Operator will be responsible for operating a Tractor-Loader-Backhoe (TLB) and other heavy machinery to conduct a wide variety of tasks essential to Victory Farms’ daily operations. These include trenching, backfilling, site leveling, road paving, and material loading. The successful candidate will have a minimum of five years’ experience operating both JCB backhoes and CAT dozers, and will demonstrate excellent safety awareness, reliability, and teamwork.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

The TLB Operator will perform a variety of technical and operational tasks that are central to the success of the farm’s infrastructure projects. Responsibilities include:

1. Safe Equipment Operation

  • Operate the TLB (Tractor Loader Backhoe) and other heavy equipment safely and efficiently in compliance with all relevant legislation, policies, and company procedures.
  • Handle heavy machinery such as JCB backhoes and CAT dozers with care and professionalism to ensure operational continuity and equipment longevity.

2. Site Preparation and Earthmoving

  • Execute tasks such as trenching, loading, backfilling, and road paving based on project plans or management instructions.
  • Excavate trenches of varying depths as needed for drainage, piping, or construction projects.
  • Level ground and move earth, rock, debris, or other materials across the farm site in preparation for construction or planting activities.

3. Maintenance and Inspection

  • Conduct daily safety and maintenance checks to ensure optimal performance of heavy equipment.
  • Clean machinery on a scheduled basis to avoid damage and deterioration.
  • Monitor equipment condition and report issues that require servicing, repair, or parts replacement to supervisors promptly.
  • Participate in routine maintenance activities, working alongside the maintenance team where necessary.

4. Environmental and Safety Compliance

  • Ensure all operations adhere to environmental regulations and farm sustainability standards.
  • Recommend improvements that can enhance environmental performance and reduce operational risks.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and secure work environment that aligns with the company’s commitment to safety and responsibility.

5. Record-Keeping and Communication

  • Keep detailed records of machinery usage, repairs conducted, and any incidents that occur during operation.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and other departments to ensure smooth coordination on multi-functional tasks.
  • Share feedback and observations with management regarding site conditions, safety concerns, or equipment performance.

6. General Support

  • Perform other duties as assigned by management, including assisting with manual labor, participating in farm maintenance, or supporting emergency repairs during off-hours.
  • Collaborate with other departments during site preparation or expansion initiatives.

Requirements and Desired Attributes

To be considered for the role, candidates should meet the following criteria:

  • Possess a Certificate or Diploma in Heavy Plant Operations or a related technical field.
  • Have at least five (5) years of experience in operating JCB backhoes and CAT dozers in an agricultural, construction, or industrial setting.
  • Demonstrate the ability to operate both the TLB and the dozer effectively and safely.
  • Show a solid understanding of occupational safety standards and heavy equipment procedures.
  • Be able to communicate clearly and work collaboratively with co-workers, supervisors, and technicians.
  • Possess strong planning and execution abilities, showing initiative and a positive, problem-solving attitude.
  • Exhibit high levels of reliability, punctuality, flexibility, and physical stamina.
  • Have experience in excavating trenches at various depths, performing land leveling, and contributing to road paving and construction tasks.
