KUTRRH is seeking to recruit two dynamic and dependable professionals to serve on a locum basis as Sonographers. The selected candidates will contribute to the provision of high-quality diagnostic imaging services that support accurate clinical decision-making and enhance patient care outcomes.
Job Description for Sonographer (Locum)
Purpose of the Job:
The primary purpose of the Sonographer role is to perform diagnostic medical ultrasound examinations, prepare detailed reports, and collaborate with other clinical staff in interpreting results. The sonographer ensures patients receive quality care through accurate imaging diagnostics that support physicians in treatment planning.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Diagnostic Imaging Services
- Perform routine and specialized ultrasound procedures including obstetric, gynecologic, abdominal, pelvic, musculoskeletal, small parts, and vascular studies.
- Ensure proper patient identification, explain procedures, and obtain informed consent prior to imaging.
- Select appropriate imaging techniques based on the nature of the clinical request and the patient’s condition.
- Equipment Operation and Maintenance
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain ultrasound equipment in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and institutional protocols.
- Troubleshoot minor technical issues with imaging equipment and escalate complex problems for repair.
- Maintain accurate records of imaging tests performed, including image archiving and retrieval.
- Patient Care and Safety
- Provide patient-centered care by ensuring patient comfort, privacy, and dignity during all procedures.
- Adhere to safety protocols to minimize patient exposure to ultrasound energy and prevent infection transmission.
- Monitor patients during procedures and respond appropriately to emergencies or complications.
- Reporting and Collaboration
- Record and compile diagnostic findings into detailed reports for physicians and referring clinicians.
- Collaborate with radiologists and other specialists for image review and correlation of findings with other diagnostic tests.
- Ensure timely communication of critical results to the appropriate clinical team.
- Quality Assurance
- Participate in internal quality assurance programs by evaluating image quality, adherence to protocols, and equipment performance.
- Contribute to ongoing improvement of sonography services through audits, patient feedback, and peer reviews.
- Maintain knowledge of latest ultrasound imaging techniques and continuing professional development.
- Administrative Responsibilities
- Manage imaging schedules, patient flow, and documentation with minimal supervision.
- Participate in departmental meetings, training sessions, and performance evaluations.
- Ensure all patient records are handled in compliance with the hospital’s confidentiality and data protection policies.
Skills and Competencies Required:
- Excellent understanding of ultrasound physics and cross-sectional anatomy
- Proficiency in operating advanced ultrasound machines and imaging software
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail in image acquisition and interpretation
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced clinical environment
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills
- High level of professional integrity and ethical standards
Terms of Engagement:
The successful candidates will be engaged on locum terms, which may involve short-term contractual assignments on an as-needed basis, depending on the hospital’s operational requirements.
