Job Description

The Project Management Lead – Construction will play a central role in overseeing and delivering office infrastructure projects across Safaricom’s corporate facilities. The role holder will be responsible for ensuring timely and quality delivery of infrastructure components including electrical, mechanical, HVAC, and fire protection systems. The successful candidate will liaise with internal and external stakeholders and manage the entire lifecycle of office construction projects—from planning and design to implementation and commissioning.

This position is ideal for a seasoned project manager with a deep understanding of office infrastructure systems and extensive experience in physical, on-site project execution. Key Responsibilities

  1. Uphold Ethical and Operational Standards
    • Adhere strictly to Safaricom’s code of conduct, corporate policies, and operational procedures.
    • Ensure the highest levels of integrity and accountability in all project-related activities.
  2. Safety, Health, and Wellbeing Compliance
    • Promote a culture of safety and wellness.
    • Adhere to all safety, health, and wellbeing policies and protocols during project execution.
  3. Project Implementation
    • Manage the end-to-end execution of office infrastructure construction projects.
    • Oversee the installation of power, HVAC, fire protection, and related systems in collaboration with external consultants.
  4. Design Coordination
    • Facilitate and coordinate design reviews for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems.
    • Liaise with design consultants to ensure alignment with project requirements and safety standards.
  5. Risk Management
    • Perform the role of Project Risk Champion, actively identifying and mitigating risks related to timelines, cost overruns, safety issues, and technical discrepancies.
  6. Quality Assurance
    • Ensure high standards of quality are maintained during design, construction, and installation of infrastructure components.
    • Conduct routine site inspections and technical evaluations.
  7. Stakeholder Engagement
    • Maintain effective communication and collaboration with all project stakeholders including internal clients, consultants, contractors, and regulatory authorities.
    • Provide regular status reports and updates to the leadership team.
  8. Health and Safety Leadership
    • Serve as the Safety and Health Champion for the assigned project.
    • Monitor site activities for compliance with occupational health and safety guidelines.

Core Competencies, Knowledge, and Experience

  • A minimum of 10 years’ project management experience in office infrastructure projects, including experience with power, HVAC, fire safety, and security systems.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in designing and reviewing MEP infrastructure components.
  • Strong expertise in Building Management Systems (BMS) and alarm monitoring platforms.
  • In-depth understanding of office infrastructure systems such as UPS units, chillers, CRAC units, generators, rectifiers, and other mission-critical plant and machinery.
  • Demonstrated experience in physical, on-site project management, including contractor supervision, materials control, and on-site safety enforcement.
  • Proficiency in construction project management tools, safety compliance software, and documentation workflows.

Academic and Professional Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in any of the following fields:
    • Electrical Engineering
    • Mechanical Engineering
    • Civil Engineering
    • Construction Management Engineering
    • Or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
  • Certification in Prince II Project Management or equivalent credential in structured project methodologies is required.
