Your focus will span several technical domains including junior software development, QA engineering, DevOps, data analytics, tech support, and IT infrastructure.
This is not a conventional recruitment role. It requires someone who understands the unique intersection between people and technology, and who can translate technical potential into career placements. You will evaluate not only skills and experience but also drive, aptitude, and alignment with Tana’s values.
Key Responsibilities
- Talent Acquisition & Candidate Assessment
- Review applications submitted to the Tana Fellowship Program, evaluating candidates’ academic, technical, and personal attributes.
- Conduct initial screenings to assess basic qualifications and alignment with Tana’s mission and partner expectations.
- Execute in-depth, structured interviews to assess both technical aptitude and soft skills (e.g., communication, teamwork, problem-solving).
- Identify candidates suitable for a variety of roles such as QA engineers, DevOps engineers, data analysts, IT support, and junior developers.
- Pipeline Development
- Build and maintain a consistent and high-quality pipeline of talent to meet Tana’s ongoing placement needs.
- Develop strategies to reach a broad and diverse candidate pool across Kenya and other regions in Africa.
- Maintain a proactive approach to identifying and engaging potential candidates even before roles are posted.
- Stakeholder Engagement
- Serve as a brand ambassador for Tana during external events such as university career fairs, webinars, and tech summits.
- Collaborate with Tana’s internal training, partner placement, and tech mentorship teams to ensure a seamless candidate journey.
- Communicate regularly with candidates to provide feedback, guidance, and updates throughout the recruitment process.
- Process Improvement & Documentation
- Follow established recruitment process guides and SOPs to ensure consistent, quality-driven experiences.
- Suggest and implement enhancements to recruitment procedures and documentation to support the team’s evolving needs.
- Document key decisions, outcomes, and data points throughout the hiring pipeline.
- Analytics & Reporting
- Track and report on recruitment metrics such as time-to-hire, conversion rates, and candidate satisfaction.
- Use insights to inform sourcing strategies and improve the overall effectiveness of recruitment efforts.
- Brand Promotion & Outreach
- Represent Tana’s values and mission in all candidate interactions and public-facing engagements.
- Leverage social media platforms such as LinkedIn, Twitter, and Instagram to amplify job postings and thought leadership.
- Develop creative recruitment campaigns to drive interest and application volume.
Requirements and Profile
- Must be eligible to work in Kenya.
- Holds a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Human Resources, Communications, IT, Computer Science, Business Administration, or related disciplines.
- Possesses 2 to 4 years of relevant work experience in recruiting, HR, talent acquisition, or roles with transferable skills.
- Familiarity with Computer Science, Information Technology, or Data Analytics—whether through formal training, work experience, or recruitment exposure—is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct thoughtful, structured interviews and provide insightful candidate evaluations.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with a professional and approachable style.
- Organized and detail-oriented with strong documentation and process tracking habits.
- A self-starter who is resourceful, adaptable, and solution-oriented.
- Experience in a startup or fast-paced growth environment is considered a plus.
What Success Looks Like in This Role
- You consistently meet or exceed monthly and quarterly recruitment targets for fellowship roles.
- Candidates have a smooth and transparent hiring experience, receiving timely communication and constructive feedback.
