Job Description

SCOPE OF WORK

The Registered Community Health Nurse will work in a health facility set up to support integrated services including RMNCAH, and Nutrition Services in Turkana County through a Primary Health care model. He or she will work to Improve access to quality antenatal care (ANC) services through community mobilization, outreach, and health system support, increase immunization coverage among children under five and pregnant women through community-based strategies, and Enhance access to integrated MNCH outreach services for underserved and nomadic populations of Turkana.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct community-based pregnancy mapping and nutrition screenings through Community health promoters (CHPs).
  • Conduct facility-based out-patient pregnancy intention screening 
  • Conduct onsite mentorship for CHPs on prenatal care and early identification of risk factors affecting future pregnancies among women of reproductive age.
  • Implement maternity open day forum dubbed ‘mama na rafiki’ initiative
  • Support Maternal and Perinatal Death Surveillance and Response (MPDSR) audit meetings at community and facility level
  • Support mobile integrated outreaches targeting pastoral populations.
  • Support community defaulter-tracing and follow-up systems via CHPS
  • Support reporting in Disease Surveillance and Outbreak Response for vaccine preventable diseases
  • Support functionality and reliability of vaccine supply and cold chain systems at the community and facility level to ensure availability and potency of vaccines.
  • Support referral pathways for clients and documentation of referral tools
  • Provide cervical cancer screening and management among Women of Reproductive Age (WRA)
  • Compile and submit program weekly, biweekly, and monthly report of all activities implemented.
  • Support documentation, reporting and Data reviews at the health facility and community levels

Qualifications

EDUCATION

  • Diploma in Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing from a recognized institution.
  • Registered with the Nursing Council of Kenya and have a Valid Practice License

EXPERIENCE

  • At least 2-years’ experience in implementation of RMNCAH services at facility and community level

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in hard to reach areas
  • Ability to work with diverse teams.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other relevant software.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Work Environment

  • Work environment is in ARID and Semi-ARID Area with frequent travel

Hours of Work

  • The job holder may be required to work outside normal working hours due to the nature of the work in general
