Job Description
SCOPE OF WORK
The Nutrition Officer will be responsible for implementing nutrition interventions in the AMREF Project Daraja.The Nutrition Officer will be responsible for day-to-day implementation of the humanitarian nutrition and interventions within the programme. He/She will play a critical role in the scale up of IMAM services as well promotion of optimum maternal, infant and young child practices at community level. The position holder will work closely with the county, sub county health department and the other nutrition partners in the County to strengthen health system support for improved quality of care.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Strengthen coordination with county and sub-county health management teams (CHMT/ SCHMT) and other partners to align nutrition interventions with government priorities.
- Provide technical assistance to health facilities on Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition (IMAM), Maternal Infant and Young Child Nutrition (MIYCN), micronutrient supplementation, and targeted supplementary feeding.
- Coordinate training and capacity-building for healthcare providers, Community Health Promoters (CHPs), and volunteers based on identified system-strengthening needs.
- Support forecasting, distribution, and consumption tracking for essential nutrition commodities.
- Conduct joint supportive supervision, mentorship, and data quality assessments in collaboration with MoH teams.
- Facilitate community engagement on improved dietary practices, food preservation, and locally available nutritious foods.
- Support MoH to scale up micronutrient supplementation (VAS, IFAS, Deworming, and Zinc) in hard-to-reach areas via ECDs and CHPs.
- Collaborate with education stakeholders for school-based nutrition and health screenings.
- Lead compilation and submission of quality programmatic reports and participate in data review and decision-making forums at various levels.
- Support and participate in milestone meetings including mid-term reviews, strategy sessions, and annual performance reviews with MoH and partners.
- Facilitate the exchange of knowledge, lessons learned, and best practices with county teams, partners, and internally within the organization.
Qualifications
EDUCATION EXPERIENCE AND ABILITIES
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, or related field. A Master’s degree is an added advantage.
- Registered and licensed by the Kenya Nutritionists and Dieticians Institute (KNDI).
Experience
- Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in nutrition programming, with a focus on government and partner coordination.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong understanding of Kenya’s devolved health system and national nutrition protocols.
- Demonstrated ability in capacity building, data-driven programming, and community engagement.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and report-writing skills.

Work Environment
- Work environment is in ARID and Semi-ARID Area with frequent travel
Hours of Work
- The job holder may be required to work outside normal working hours due to the nature of the work in general
