Requirements for Appointment
To be considered for the Waiter Assistant III position, applicants must meet one of the following minimum requirements:
- Educational Qualifications:
- A Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) mean grade of ‘D’ plain or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
- Professional Training:
- A Craft Certificate in Food and Beverage Production, Sales and Service from a recognized institution;
OR - Attendance of a formal training course lasting not less than two (2) months in Food and Beverage Sales and Service, organized by Kenya Utalii College or any other recognized institution.
- A Craft Certificate in Food and Beverage Production, Sales and Service from a recognized institution;
Duties and Responsibilities
This position marks the entry grade for the Waiter Assistant cadre within the State Department for Roads. Officers appointed to this role will undergo on-the-job training and will carry out assigned tasks under the supervision of a senior officer. Key responsibilities include:
- Cleaning and Sanitation Tasks:
- Sweeping, mopping, and scrubbing floors within the food service area to maintain hygiene standards.
- Washing windows, glassware, cups, trays, and cutlery.
- Wiping and arranging restaurant furniture to maintain orderliness and a pleasant environment.
- Food and Beverage Support Services:
- Setting up tables in accordance with service protocols and ensuring they are appropriately equipped for meal service.
- Wiping and polishing glassware and cutlery before use.
- Assisting in the service of food and beverages to internal staff, guests, and visitors as per established hospitality standards.
- Customer Service and Team Support:
- Supporting the food and beverage service team in ensuring efficient delivery of meals.
- Responding politely to guests’ needs and reporting any issues or feedback to senior hospitality staff.
- Adhering to workplace safety and hygiene practices as required in a catering and hospitality setting.
