This position is crucial in supporting the institution’s educational and administrative functions through efficient and secure technology systems.

This is a full-time role, and the successful candidate will begin duties on 1st September 2025, with applications due by 8th August 2025.

About the Role

The Senior ICT Technician is expected to work in a fast-paced environment that combines both technical support and strategic ICT management to meet the demands of a modern educational setting. The position supports the entire school, and the technician will work under the supervision of the Senior Supervising ICT Technician.

The technician will play a key role in ensuring that both teaching and non-teaching staff can leverage ICT systems to enhance performance, ensure cybersecurity compliance, and streamline administrative processes. This includes a wide range of responsibilities from managing systems and networks to providing technical support and training for users.

Key Responsibilities

Systems & Data Management

The Senior ICT Technician will be responsible for the robust and efficient management of the school’s ICT systems and data. This includes:

  • Creating, maintaining, and monitoring user accounts and access privileges.
  • Managing data backups and overseeing system rollovers to prevent loss of data.
  • Maintaining and updating system configurations including domain services and group policies.
  • Supporting and administering key management information systems such as Engage and GL Assessment.
  • Ensuring the integrity, availability, and confidentiality of school data systems.

Network & Cybersecurity

The candidate will be charged with planning, implementing, and maintaining the school’s network infrastructure to ensure uninterrupted and secure access. Tasks under this category include:

  • Ensuring the Local Area Network (LAN) and Wide Area Network (WAN) are optimized for speed and reliability.
  • Deploying and updating cybersecurity measures, including the use of firewalls and intrusion detection systems.
  • Managing antivirus and endpoint protection solutions to keep systems secure.
  • Monitoring and responding to potential threats or vulnerabilities in line with school and international cybersecurity policies.

User Support & Training

As the first line of support for all ICT-related issues within the school, the technician will:

  • Provide daily IT support services to both teaching and support staff.
  • Manage the helpdesk system to prioritize and resolve reported issues promptly.
  • Conduct training sessions for staff to improve digital literacy and effective use of educational technologies.
  • Develop and maintain documentation including user manuals, standard operating procedures, and troubleshooting guides.

Asset & Procurement Oversight

Ensuring the school’s ICT infrastructure is current and functional requires ongoing management and planning. Key responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining an up-to-date ICT asset register including tracking of hardware and software.
  • Leading procurement processes for new ICT equipment and services, including vendor evaluation and selection.
  • Recommending upgrades or replacements of outdated hardware and decommissioning obsolete equipment.
  • Supporting the preparation of annual ICT budgets and overseeing departmental expenditure.

Reporting & Analytics

The technician will assist in providing data-driven insights to support school operations, including:

  • Compiling and analyzing student performance data for academic departments.
  • Designing and implementing tracking tools to monitor learner outcomes.
  • Supporting assessment procedures by generating timely and accurate reports.

Operational & Event Support

The role involves ensuring all ICT equipment and systems are operational at all times, and providing technical support during school functions:

  • Performing routine checks and maintenance on computers, printers, interactive whiteboards, and projectors.
  • Setting up and managing audio-visual systems for assemblies, presentations, and school events.
  • Overseeing the management of CCTV systems to ensure the safety and security of students and staff.
  • Coordinating with external vendors for repairs, system updates, and special projects.

Collaboration & Policy Compliance

The Senior ICT Technician will contribute to the school’s broader strategic goals by:

  • Collaborating with school leadership in the development and implementation of ICT strategies aligned with teaching and learning objectives.
  • Ensuring compliance with ICT policies, including safeguarding and data protection regulations.
  • Staying informed about best practices in educational technology and integrating them into the school’s digital environment.
  • Participating in school-wide planning, offering ICT insight in cross-functional team discussions.

Experience and Competencies Required

Braeburn Gitanga Road is seeking a candidate with strong technical capabilities and a background in educational ICT support. The desired candidate must have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Educational Technology, or a related field. Alternatively, a diploma with at least 10 years of relevant experience in a similar capacity.
  • Demonstrated experience managing ICT systems in an educational environment, preferably in international schools.
  • In-depth understanding of educational technologies, their classroom applications, and their role in enhancing teaching and learning.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, as well as broader experience with Office 365 and Google Workspace platforms.
  • Sound knowledge of network infrastructure, including LAN/WAN setups, and solid understanding of cybersecurity principles.
  • Practical experience with educational management systems, especially platforms like Engage and GL Assessment.
  • Experience with student information systems and their integration with learning management systems.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to train and support staff members of varying levels of technical proficiency.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to plan, prioritize, and deliver projects under tight deadlines.
  • Knowledge of data protection and privacy regulations such as Kenya’s Data Protection Act, 2019, and GDPR (EU).
  • Industry certifications such as CompTIA Network+, Server+, or Security+ are considered an added advantage.
  • A valid Certificate of Good Conduct as proof of a clean criminal record.
