The United Nations is seeking two highly motivated and organized interns to join its team in Nairobi under the Programme and Communication Support category. As an intern at the United Nations, you will gain exposure to high-level development programmes, cross-functional teamwork, and strategic communication efforts aimed at promoting sustainable development and international cooperation.
Position 1: Intern – Programme Support (1 Position)
Overview:
The Programme Support Intern will work closely with the programme team to assist in planning, coordination, implementation, and monitoring of ongoing projects. This role will enable you to understand the workings of large-scale development programmes, interact with various internal departments and external stakeholders, and contribute to meaningful impact in the region.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in the planning and coordination of programme activities, meetings, and events.
- Support the preparation and review of programme documents, reports, and project updates.
- Conduct background research, data collection, and analysis to inform programme development and policy initiatives.
- Draft briefing notes, meeting minutes, and official correspondence for internal and external stakeholders.
- Assist in monitoring project timelines and tracking deliverables to ensure alignment with programme goals.
- Liaise with relevant units, field offices, and external partners to support programme implementation.
- Maintain up-to-date programme records and ensure proper documentation and filing of key materials.
- Contribute to the development of progress reports and evaluations by compiling data and drafting content.
- Provide administrative support including logistics for meetings, workshops, and field missions when needed.
Position 2: Intern – Communication Support (1 Position)
Overview:
The Communication Support Intern will support the development and execution of internal and external communications strategies. This position offers an excellent opportunity to strengthen skills in content development, media engagement, digital storytelling, and public relations, all within the UN system.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in the drafting, editing, and proofreading of press releases, web stories, social media content, speeches, and other communication materials.
- Support the management of content across UN digital platforms, including websites and social media channels.
- Monitor local and international media for news relevant to the organization’s work and produce media monitoring summaries.
- Support in the production of multimedia content (photos, infographics, videos) for communication campaigns.
- Assist in organizing events and campaigns, including logistics, branding, and visibility materials.
- Help maintain a media database and track coverage of events and news relevant to the programme.
- Contribute to the internal newsletter by curating and writing articles that highlight programme achievements.
- Conduct background research and compile briefing materials to support media relations and public outreach.
- Coordinate with communications focal points in other UN agencies and partner organizations for joint initiatives.
