Role Overview

As the Country Commercial Manager for Kenya, your primary role will be to implement new business opportunities, acquire and develop strategic accounts, and improve the company’s growth and profitability across selected industry sectors. This position has a 12 to 24-month strategic outlook, focusing on developing market intelligence, coaching the sales force, and managing key customer relationships in alignment with global and regional commercial strategies.

This role also demands a deep understanding of Kenya’s trade and distribution environment, a strong track record of business development, and the ability to lead teams effectively in a dynamic commercial landscape.


Key Responsibilities

1. Process Management

You will be responsible for driving the commercial processes that directly affect business performance and long-term growth. This includes:

  • Managing and executing business plans that optimize sales potential across various segments.
  • Continuously analyzing market and economic trends to inform strategic decisions.
  • Identifying and evaluating emerging products, services, and companies relevant to DHL’s operations in Kenya.
  • Developing cost models that support new business initiatives.
  • Designing and managing comprehensive market intelligence and performance monitoring systems.
  • Streamlining work processes to ensure operational excellence and organizational efficiency.

Percentage of Role Focus: 60%


2. Stakeholder Engagement

You will manage internal and external relationships crucial to commercial success. Specific duties include:

  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with existing and potential clients to maximize growth opportunities.
  • Leading a portfolio of customers through your direct reports and participating in strategic engagement forums.
  • Working closely with regional Sales Channels to ensure alignment with broader commercial objectives.
  • Resolving escalated client issues in a timely manner while providing comprehensive support.
  • Ensuring full compliance with DHL’s health, safety, environmental, and community policies.

Percentage of Role Focus: 15%


3. Customer Support and Sales Team Leadership

This role places you at the center of the customer relationship and sales strategy. Your responsibilities will involve:

  • Leading and coaching a high-performing sales team, including Field Sales Executives, Key Account Executives, and Global Executives.
  • Enhancing the team’s capability in DHL products, logistics solutions, and professional selling skills.
  • Coordinating closely with the Service Station teams to ensure seamless service delivery to clients.
  • Maintaining frequent contact with key clients and the broader commercial environment to stay attuned to market trends and needs.
  • Liaising with country management peers and counterparts in other markets to share best practices and coordinate regional support.

Percentage of Role Focus: 15%


4. Project and Business Development Management

This position demands a strong project management acumen with a focus on impactful commercial initiatives:

  • Managing strategic projects and assignments that contribute significantly to the business development goals of DHL Express Kenya.
  • Identifying and implementing continuous improvement opportunities in commercial operations.
  • Ensuring the successful execution of commercial plans within the scope, time, and budget constraints.
