ABOUT KISII UNIVERSITY
Kisii University was formally established through Legal Notice No. 225, issued under the University Act No. 42 of 2012. It was officially recognized as a full-fledged university on February 6, 2013, continuing a legacy of academic excellence and service that began in its earlier forms as a teachers’ college and a constituent college of Egerton University.
Today, Kisii University is home to thousands of students and a wide spectrum of academic departments, faculties, and schools offering undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, and certificate programs. JOB DESCRIPTION – PART-TIME LECTURERS
Successful applicants will be expected to support the University’s core mandate of teaching, training, and mentorship of students. Part-time lecturers will engage in a wide range of academic responsibilities in their respective fields. The key duties include:
- Teaching and Learning
- Prepare and deliver well-structured lectures, tutorials, and practical sessions in the relevant area of specialization.
- Utilize diverse teaching methods and strategies to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes.
- Evaluate and assess students’ performance through tests, assignments, projects, presentations, and examinations.
- Curriculum Development and Review
- Contribute to the development, review, and update of course content and instructional materials in line with current academic and industry standards.
- Ensure integration of modern pedagogical approaches and digital learning tools where applicable.
- Academic Mentorship
- Guide students on academic progression, career advice, and research development.
- Support students in developing professional skills relevant to their field of study.
- Research and Knowledge Dissemination
- Where applicable, contribute to ongoing research initiatives within the University through collaboration with full-time staff and postgraduate students.
- Encourage student participation in academic research, innovation, and problem-solving initiatives.
- Administrative and Compliance Duties
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, marks, and other academic reports.
- Adhere to the University’s academic calendar, deadlines, and quality assurance frameworks.
- Participate in departmental meetings when invited and offer academic input into departmental planning.
REQUIREMENTS FOR APPOINTMENT
To qualify for appointment to the Kisii University part-time lecturer database, applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Possess a Doctorate degree or a Master’s degree in the relevant field from a recognized university. All academic qualifications (Bachelor’s, Master’s, and/or Doctorate) must be in the same area of specialization.
- Have at least two (2) years of teaching experience at University level. This must be evidenced by documentation such as letters of appointment or contracts from previous university engagements.
- Applicants with foreign academic qualifications must provide recognition and verification certificates from the Commission for University Education (CUE).
- Demonstrate commitment to academic excellence, ethical conduct, and student-centered teaching.
