Role Summary
The Marketing and Communications Associate will be responsible for supporting the planning, development, and execution of marketing and communication strategies for the Aga Khan School, Mombasa. The aim of this role is to enhance the school’s brand visibility, promote engagement with stakeholders, support public-facing initiatives, and contribute to the overall marketing objectives of AKES, Kenya.

The successful candidate will work closely with the school administration, the central office, and other stakeholders to ensure that all marketing and communication efforts align with the organization’s values and strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Marketing Support

  • Collaborate with the Line Manager to lead public-facing marketing initiatives that promote the school’s vision and attract new audiences.
  • Plan and coordinate three open days per year, per school section, and two careers days. Lead the planning, marketing, and execution of these events in collaboration with other departments.
  • Work with colleagues from the Aga Khan School, Mombasa, and occasionally the Aga Khan Academy Mombasa, to support promotional activities related to sports, swimming galas, and other school-hosted events.

2. Content Creation and Brand Management

  • Create engaging and original content that reflects the school’s ethos, for distribution across various platforms including newsletters, social media, website, and printed publications.
  • Capture high-quality photography and videography of key events for marketing, archival, and social media use.
  • Ensure that all public-facing communication such as letters, certificates, trophies, and related materials are approved and correctly branded.
  • Update the school’s section of the AKES, Kenya website to reflect current offerings, news, and events, in consultation with the line manager.

3. Event Coordination and Support

  • Assist in organizing and managing school events, including supporting logistics, branding, invitations, and media coverage.
  • Maintain professional representation of the school during public engagements and facilitate visibility of school initiatives at both internal and external events.
  • Work with the central office to coordinate media events, press invites, and timely updates for media outlets in Mombasa and beyond.

4. Communication Guidelines and Policy Development

  • Assist in the development of communication guidelines for various thematic programs such as Mental Health, Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH), and other school initiatives.
  • Provide support to teachers and staff in ensuring adherence to the organization’s communications and branding policies.

5. Digital and Social Media Management

  • Monitor, manage, and enhance the school’s presence across social media platforms, ensuring content is timely, engaging, and consistent with the school’s brand image.
  • Track analytics to evaluate the performance of campaigns and make data-driven recommendations for improvement.

6. Media and Asset Repository Management

  • Maintain an organized digital database of all photographs, videos, and marketing materials for internal and external use.
  • Ensure secure storage and controlled access to digital assets while maintaining data privacy and copyright compliance.

7. Compliance and Data Protection

  • Ensure all activities, particularly events involving students or public audiences, are conducted in strict adherence to data protection policies and child safeguarding protocols.
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold the values of the organization in all public communications and representations.

Qualifications and Experience Required

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Communication, Digital Media, or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of professional experience in a similar role, preferably in the education sector.
  • Proven experience with Adobe Suite or demonstrated capability in using graphic design and video editing tools.
  • Experience working in a school environment is an added advantage.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with a keen eye for detail and storytelling.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, with a proactive and organized approach.
  • Understanding of brand management, digital content creation, and event promotion.
