Main Duties and Responsibilities
The selected candidate will serve as a key adviser to the Embassy team, especially on issues related to Sudan’s political and economic environment. The responsibilities will include:
- Political and Economic Reporting: Conducting ongoing analysis and preparing comprehensive reports on political processes, governance trends, and economic developments within Sudan.
- Stakeholder Engagement and Networking: Establishing and maintaining robust networks with political actors, civil society, international organizations, and regional bodies relevant to Sudan. These engagements will span both Sudan-based and external stakeholders.
- Representation and Coordination: Attending and actively participating in meetings with international partners, Sudanese stakeholders, and development actors. Supporting Norway’s foreign policy interests through representation in multilateral settings.
- Programme Support and Grant Management: Assisting with grant management tasks related to Sudan-focused thematic areas. This may involve liaising with grantees, reviewing reports, and coordinating project-related activities.
- Administrative Support: Providing logistical and administrative support to the Embassy as required, including arranging meetings, booking travel, and coordinating events.
- Other Duties: Performing other tasks as delegated by the Head of Mission. This may include temporary shifts in roles or responsibilities, especially during times of mission restructuring or policy redirection.
Required Qualifications
Applicants must demonstrate the following academic and professional credentials:
- Educational Background: A Master’s degree in political science, social sciences, economics, development studies, or an equivalent discipline.
- Knowledge Base: A deep and practical understanding of Sudan’s political and economic environment is essential.
- Work Experience: Substantial experience in political reporting and policy analysis. Prior work with embassies, international organizations, or policy research institutions will be an added advantage.
- Language Proficiency: Excellent written and spoken command of both English and Arabic is required.
- Legal Work Status: A valid work and residence permit in Kenya is mandatory. Applicants must already be legally authorized to live and work in Kenya without embassy sponsorship.
