The Narok County Public Service Board (NCPSB), is pleased to announce a large-scale recruitment exercise for the position of Game Ranger. This recruitment drive will take place across the county between 8th September 2025 and 18th September 2025. Duties and Responsibilities

Game Rangers play a vital role in the protection and preservation of wildlife and natural resources within Narok County. They serve as the frontline personnel in the enforcement of conservation laws and are expected to carry out a range of duties under often challenging conditions. The responsibilities assigned to Game Rangers include:

  • Wildlife Protection: Safeguarding wildlife from poaching and illegal activities, maintaining the security of wildlife in national parks and reserves, and conducting surveillance patrols.
  • Tourist Safety: Ensuring the safety of tourists in protected areas, guiding visitors when required, and upholding public safety within conservation zones.
  • Parade Duties: Participating in ceremonial and official parade activities as directed by senior officers, contributing to disciplined service and ceremonial protocols.
  • Sentry and Inquiry Duties: Manning gates, outposts, and field stations, providing information to visitors, and reporting on security or wildlife activities in their areas of operation.
  • Investigation of Wildlife Crimes: Investigating wildlife-related offenses such as poaching, habitat destruction, or trafficking of wildlife products. Rangers are expected to preserve crime scenes, collect evidence, and support legal proceedings.
  • Tracking and Recovery: Tracking poachers and recovering illegally obtained wildlife trophies or products.
  • Intelligence Gathering: Collecting and analyzing intelligence related to wildlife crimes, engaging with communities for information, and interrogating suspects in accordance with legal procedures.
  • Environmental Crime Reporting: Compiling reports and maintaining statistics on conservation and environmental crimes to support policy and enforcement strategies.
  • Nominal Roll Management: Preparing and updating ranger deployment schedules and patrol logs to ensure proper documentation of daily activities and personnel movements.
  • Escort Duties: Safeguarding the transportation of valuable or sensitive wildlife materials, participating in wildlife rescue missions, and accompanying officials during field activities.
  • Rescue Operations: Assisting in animal and human rescue operations during emergencies such as wildlife attacks, floods, or forest fires.

Game Rangers must be prepared for field work in varying terrain and weather conditions. They must also demonstrate discipline, teamwork, and dedication to public service.

Minimum Requirements

Interested candidates must meet the following minimum qualifications and conditions to be considered for recruitment:

  • Be a Kenyan citizen with a valid National Identity Card.
  • Possess a minimum academic qualification of KCSE Grade D- (Minus).
  • Have a clean criminal record, with no past convictions or pending cases.
  • Present a valid Certificate of Good Conduct from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
  • Be physically and mentally fit to handle field operations, including long patrols and emergency responses.
  • Be between 18 and 28 years of age at the time of recruitment.
  • Be at least 5 feet 4 inches (1.63 meters) tall for male candidates and at least 5 feet 2 inches (1.57 meters) tall for female candidates.
  • Possess good hearing and clear vision to operate safely and effectively in the field.
  • Be computer literate, with the ability to utilize basic digital tools and systems for communication, reporting, and data entry.
  • Female candidates must not be pregnant at the time of recruitment or during the initial training period.
  • Fulfill the provisions of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya on Leadership and Integrity, and demonstrate adherence to Article 232 on the Values and Principles of Public Service.

Training Requirement

All successful applicants will be required to undertake a rigorous paramilitary training course lasting no less than six (6) months. This training will be fully sponsored by the Narok County Government. It will cover essential areas such as field survival skills, wildlife law enforcement, weapons handling, first aid, ethics, and conservation techniques. Candidates should be ready for the physical and mental challenges of this training period.

Candidates are required to report to the respective venues on time, dressed in appropriate attire for physical assessments and interviews. Late arrivals will not be admitted into the recruitment process.
