Introduction
The School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (SPHS) at USIU-Africa plays a pivotal role in developing a highly skilled healthcare workforce equipped with the knowledge and practical competencies to meet the demands of both local and international healthcare systems. Through strong academic programs, practical training, and research-driven approaches, the SPHS fosters a learning environment that empowers future nurses, pharmacists, and clinical professionals.
As part of its ongoing effort to strengthen academic delivery in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Bachelor of Pharmacy programs, USIU-Africa seeks to engage an Adjunct Faculty in Anatomy. This is a strategic teaching position aimed at delivering critical foundational knowledge in Human Anatomy, including Gross Anatomy, Embryology, and Histology.
Job Summary
The Adjunct Faculty in Anatomy will be responsible for delivering course content, supporting practical sessions, assessing students, and contributing to the academic growth of the Anatomy curriculum. The successful candidate will ensure the course content aligns with academic standards and emerging trends in anatomical sciences. The individual will also provide mentorship to students and participate in curriculum development and review activities as required.
Key Responsibilities
The Adjunct Faculty member will be expected to carry out the following core duties:
1. Course Delivery and Assessment
- Teach and assess selected undergraduate courses in Human Anatomy, specifically focusing on Gross Anatomy, Embryology, and Histology.
- Deliver high-quality instruction using a variety of modern pedagogical methods including in-person, blended, and virtual learning platforms.
- Provide students with clear course expectations, assignments, timely feedback, and academic guidance.
- Design and administer assessments (formative and summative) to evaluate students’ grasp of course content.
2. Laboratory and Practical Engagement
- Introduce students to laboratory-based practicals in Human Anatomy, ensuring they understand specimen handling, identification, and clinical relevance.
- Mark practical reports and laboratory-based assignments for the courses assigned.
- Guide students during hands-on sessions in the dissection room, histology laboratory, and multimedia anatomy simulations.
3. Student Mentorship and Support
- Offer academic and career mentoring to students in the School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.
- Support learners in developing an appreciation of Anatomy as a foundational course for healthcare and clinical sciences.
- Assist students with academic challenges related to the subject matter and provide additional learning opportunities where needed.
4. Curriculum Development and Review
- Collaborate with fellow faculty members in the ongoing development and review of the Anatomy curriculum to ensure relevance, academic rigor, and responsiveness to the healthcare sector.
- Recommend improvements in course content, delivery strategies, and evaluation mechanisms.
5. Program Assessment and Institutional Contribution
- Participate in academic audits, quality assurance reviews, and program assessments for Anatomy-related courses.
- Contribute to strategic discussions on strengthening teaching and learning within the SPHS.
- Provide input in policy formulation, educational technologies, and learning outcome assessments.
6. Departmental Duties and Additional Responsibilities
- Attend relevant departmental and school meetings as scheduled.
- Support academic events, student-led initiatives, and community outreach programs organized by SPHS.
- Perform any additional tasks as may be assigned by the Dean or Head of Department from time to time in support of academic and institutional excellence.
Minimum Educational Qualifications and Professional Experience
To be considered for the position of Adjunct Faculty in Anatomy, applicants must demonstrate the following academic qualifications and professional experience:
- A Master of Science degree in Human Anatomy from a recognized and accredited university.
- A basic undergraduate degree in any of the following disciplines is required:
- Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB/MBBS)
- Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm)
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN)
- Bachelor of Clinical Medicine
- Or other closely related health sciences fields.
- A PhD in Human Anatomy will be considered an added advantage and may be prioritized during the shortlisting process.
- A minimum of three (3) years of teaching experience at a university level, with a strong record of academic delivery in anatomical sciences.
- Must be registered with a relevant professional regulatory or licensing body such as the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC), Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB), Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK), or Clinical Officers Council.

- A solid background and command in the field of Human Anatomy and related sub-disciplines.
- Demonstrated ability to plan lessons effectively and deliver complex anatomical content in an engaging and understandable manner.

- Capacity to manage ambiguity and thrive in a diverse, multicultural, and rapidly evolving academic environment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to listen, mediate, and support students’ academic needs.
- High levels of self-motivation, responsibility, and discipline, especially in a part-time teaching capacity.
- Demonstrated excellence in research writing, grant writing, and academic presentation will be an asset.
- Must exhibit professionalism, academic integrity, and commitment to continuous improvement and lifelong learning.
