1. Lecturer (Part-Time) – Environment & Natural Resource Management

Africa Nazarene University invites applications for the position of Lecturer (Part-Time) in the Department of Environment and Natural Resource Management. This role is designed for professionals passionate about environmental studies and dedicated to academic excellence. The successful candidate will contribute to curriculum delivery, research, and student development within the department.

Academic Requirements:

Applicants must hold a PhD in any of the following disciplines:

  • Remote Sensing and GIS, Geoinformatics, Land Use Planning, or Geospatial Science
  • Geography
  • Landscape Ecology, Restoration Ecology, or Terrestrial Ecology
  • Botany or Agroecology
  • Data Science

In addition to the academic qualifications, the applicant must have:

  • At least three (3) years of teaching experience at university level as a lecturer or a minimum of five (5) years of research or industry experience with a demonstrated history of attracting research funding.
  • A minimum of twenty-four (24) publication points as a lecturer or equivalent, of which at least sixteen (16) must come from refereed scholarly journals.

General Expectations:

  • Demonstrated teaching abilities backed by student evaluations and peer reviews.
  • Experience in non-teaching university functions will be considered an advantage.
  • Proficiency in online teaching and modern pedagogy is essential.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the development, planning, and implementation of a high-quality and contemporary curriculum aligned with market and research trends.
  • Contribute to periodic curriculum review and development of comprehensive course and lesson plans.
  • Prepare teaching aids and instructional materials for both contact and online learning environments.
  • Use a variety of teaching methods, including but not limited to, group work, laboratory sessions, fieldwork, and interactive digital tools to ensure dynamic content delivery and student engagement.
  • Formulate assessment strategies to evaluate student learning effectively.
  • Provide academic guidance and mentorship to undergraduate and postgraduate students, including supervision of research projects and internship placements.
  • Engage in departmental research initiatives and publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals or other scholarly platforms.
  • Contribute to grant writing efforts and collaboration with external stakeholders for research and development opportunities.
  • Advise students on academic progress, career pathways, and other relevant academic matters.
  • Participate in conferences, seminars, workshops, and other scholarly or industry-related activities.
  • Engage in departmental administrative responsibilities and support university field operations and community engagement programs.

2. Senior Assistant Librarian

The position of Senior Assistant Librarian is central to the effective operation of the university’s information resource center. The role supports critical library functions to ensure that students and faculty have timely and appropriate access to academic resources in both physical and digital formats.

Job Purpose:

To provide comprehensive support across the university’s library services—including acquisitions, processing, cataloguing, circulation, reference services, multimedia operations, and collection management—to facilitate access to knowledge and promote academic excellence.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform duties across various library service areas on a rotational basis, ensuring operational efficiency and user satisfaction in the following: a. Acquisition:
    • Receive material requests from faculty and staff.
    • Review publishers’ catalogues and select appropriate information resources.
    • Work closely with academic departments and procurement to place orders, verify deliveries, accession new materials, and ensure compliance with procurement processes.
    • Stamp, barcode, and prepare new acquisitions for cataloguing and circulation.
    b. Cataloguing and Classification:
    • Conduct descriptive and subject cataloguing in accordance with international bibliographic standards.
    • Assign classification codes and update authority and bibliographic records.
    • Label and dispatch materials for circulation after processing.
    c. Circulation Services:
    • Oversee the lending process: issuing, returning, renewing, and reserving materials.
    • Enforce overdue penalties, update borrower records, clear users, and manage shelving activities.
    • Conduct regular shelf reading to maintain accurate inventory organization.
    d. Reference Services:
    • Provide user guidance in locating and utilizing information resources.
    • Conduct detailed literature searches upon user request.
    • Collaborate with the library systems team to deliver effective electronic access.
    e. Multimedia Services:
    • Coordinate indexing and hyperlinking of multimedia and electronic materials.
    • Manage audiovisual collections, print journals, and other periodicals to support varied learning styles.
    f. Collection Management:
    • Undertake periodic inventory audits.
    • Reconcile library holdings, weed outdated materials, and prepare damaged items for repair or replacement.
  • Evaluate the condition of books and library equipment, initiating minor repairs or preparing items for professional binding services.
  • Support user training activities and onboarding of knowledge ambassadors (library student aides).
  • Provide first-level user support for library systems and escalate unresolved issues appropriately.
  • Maintain accurate records of library operations and generate daily statistical reports.
  • Operate reprographic services including scanning and photocopying for library users, as needed.

Academic and Professional Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Library and Information Science
  • At least one (1) year of relevant experience in an academic or institutional library setting
