BURN Manufacturing is seeking to recruit an accountant to join its finance department in Ruiru, Kenya. The selected candidate will be responsible for preparing accounts, managing financial information, ensuring compliance with tax regulations, and supporting internal control processes. The position requires a high level of accuracy, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively with various departments to ensure smooth financial operations.
The accountant will collaborate closely with the Head of Finance to ensure financial statements are timely and accurate, assist in implementing and reviewing financial operating procedures, and ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements. The role demands a hands-on approach, with daily transaction entries, reconciliations, reporting, and payment processing forming a significant part of the responsibilities.
This is a professional role requiring a solid background in finance or accounting, preferably within the manufacturing sector. Experience with Microsoft Dynamics NAV will be considered an added advantage, and the organization encourages qualified female candidates to apply.
Duties and responsibilities
• Work with the Head of Finance to ensure timely and accurate submission of financial statements.
• Provide support in developing and implementing standard financial operating procedures.
• Assist in regular reviews of the effectiveness of internal controls, covering financial, operational, and compliance areas.
• Enter financial transactions into the accounting system on a real-time basis.
• Carry out bank reconciliations to ensure records match with bank statements.
• Assist in preparing and coordinating the audit process.
• Collect required supporting documentation for grant reports when necessary.
• Prepare and file tax, VAT, and other regulatory submissions on a monthly basis.
• Work with the tax department to ensure timely and accurate submission of tax returns.
• Resolve statutory inconsistencies promptly.
• Reconcile supplier statements and resolve any discrepancies.
• Prepare payments to suppliers, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company procedures.
• Receive invoices and PRFs for non-cash payments and enter bills into the accounting system.
• Assist in preparing vendor payments and ensuring all supporting documentation, including tax-compliant invoices, is properly filed.
• Prepare, verify, and send customer statements.
• Confirm that sales orders reflect the correct BURN pricing and any specific customer pricing.
• Ensure new customer forms are correctly completed and approved by the VP Sales or Commercial Director.
• Prepare tax-compliant invoices based on sales orders and stove shipments.
• Record payments received from customers and keep accurate payment records.
• Track and file export documentation, updating relevant spreadsheets.
• Update and maintain all settings in the ERP/accounting system to ensure accuracy.
• Submit financial reports in a timely manner to relevant stakeholders.
• Conduct weekly cash planning to support business operations.
Skills and experience required
• Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting.
• CPA finalist.
• Experience with Microsoft Dynamics NAV is desirable.
• Minimum of three years’ experience in a business environment, preferably in the manufacturing industry.
