The firm’s Deal Advisory practice plays a critical role in helping clients navigate complex transactions and business transformations. Drawing on deep technical expertise and sector knowledge, the team works with private companies, the public sector, private equity houses, leading financial institutions, and individuals. The advisory work is structured around six strategic service areas, each designed to enhance value and position clients for sustainable success:

  1. Buy – Supporting clients at every stage of the acquisition process, from developing deal strategies to realizing value after the transaction is complete.
  2. Sell – Assisting clients in maximizing shareholder value by actively managing portfolios and divesting non-core operations, entire businesses, or shareholdings.
  3. Partner – Advising on the creation and structuring of joint ventures or alliances, and providing guidance throughout their lifecycle, from inception to exit.
  4. Fix – Enabling business turnarounds by identifying strategic, operational, and financial opportunities to stabilize underperforming companies. The team also addresses challenges in financial restructuring and debt refinancing, with the goal of improving performance and enabling sustainable growth.
  5. Fund – Offering strategic advice on capital structuring transactions, ensuring effective communication with shareholders, lenders, and other stakeholders, and designing approaches that enhance value.
  6. Grow – Assisting clients with all aspects of their growth strategy, from market expansion to operational improvements, recognizing that growth is a central element of every organization’s long-term plan.

As part of its expansion in the East African market, KPMG is inviting applications for the position of Transaction Services Senior Associate within its Deal Advisory division. This role presents an exceptional opportunity for professionals with proven expertise in transaction services to contribute to delivering tailored solutions that empower clients to achieve their strategic objectives.

Position Overview

The Transaction Services Senior Associate will work closely with management and other team members to execute Deal Advisory projects across various sectors and markets. The role involves supporting clients in designing, developing, and implementing solutions that address specific business challenges while fostering long-term growth. The position requires a combination of technical knowledge, analytical skills, and client relationship management, as well as the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, multicultural environment.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to undertake a wide range of responsibilities, including but not limited to the following:

  • Project Support and Execution – Assist management on Deal Advisory projects, ensuring that each engagement delivers innovative, pragmatic solutions that meet client needs and drive growth.
  • Business Development Materials – Prepare client presentations, expressions of interest (EOIs), concept notes, proposals, and other documentation required to secure new engagements.
  • Market Awareness – Maintain up-to-date knowledge of business and economic developments that may impact client operations, and integrate this knowledge into service delivery.
  • Project Performance Monitoring – Continuously assess project progress against established objectives and milestones, maintaining quality control throughout the lifecycle of the assignment.
  • Stakeholder Communication – Facilitate the effective flow of information between project stakeholders, ensuring that expectations and updates are communicated clearly and in a timely manner.
  • Technical Guidance – Provide subject matter expertise on client assignments, including the preparation of comprehensive reports and the delivery of projects in accordance with agreed specifications and timelines.
  • Teamwork and Collaboration – Work cooperatively with engagement team members, demonstrating responsibility, reliability, and commitment to collective success.
  • Contracting and Coordination – Manage project contracting processes with associates, and coordinate the contributions of sub-consultants to ensure cohesive and timely delivery.
  • Quality and Risk Management – Ensure adherence to internal quality assurance and risk management protocols during the setup, execution, and close-out of all projects.
  • Regional and International Collaboration – Collaborate with colleagues across East Africa and with international KPMG teams on client work and internal initiatives, as appropriate.
  • Other Duties – Undertake any additional tasks assigned in support of the firm’s objectives.

Academic, Professional, and Experience Requirements

Applicants for the role should possess the following qualifications and experience:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, public policy, or a closely related field.
  • Professional certifications such as ACCA, CFA, or CPA are advantageous.
  • A minimum of 4–7 years’ experience in project finance or transaction services, with exposure to financial and transaction advisory activities including financial due diligence, business valuation, restructuring, insolvency, or mergers and acquisitions (M&A).

Technical Competencies and Personal Attributes

The ideal candidate will bring a strong combination of technical expertise, interpersonal skills, and professional integrity. Essential competencies and attributes include:

  • A proven track record in executing buy-side and vendor due diligence, business valuations, restructuring, insolvency, and/or M&A projects.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and other relevant IT tools.

  • Cultural adaptability to operate effectively across diverse African jurisdictions.
