Business Development Lead
Reporting to: General Secretary and Chief Executive Officer

Job Summary
The Business Development Lead will be responsible for expanding CHAK’s program portfolio through strategic partnerships, competitive proposal development, and innovative business initiatives. This role involves managing CHAK’s business intelligence platform, identifying and analyzing funding opportunities, and building strong relationships with donors and partners. The incumbent will also provide leadership for CHAK Business Services Limited, fostering growth in its portfolio through strategic partnerships and business ventures.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership
- Provide technical guidance, proposal development leadership, and mentoring to technical and contributing writers in the Health Programs Directorate.
- Offer strategic direction in business growth initiatives aligned with CHAK’s mission and strategic plan.
New Business Development
- Serve as lead writer on proposal efforts for restricted and unrestricted funding opportunities within the Health Programmes Division.
- Lead proposal strategy, design, and review sessions with technical teams.
- Develop proposal content, including annotated outlines, executive summaries, technical approaches, and presentation materials.
- Identify and engage potential partners and candidates for program implementation.
- Participate in capture trips to establish relationships with stakeholders and gather relevant program data.
- Guide proposal teams in setting win themes and integrating them across sections.
- Conduct competitor analysis, donor landscape research, and market assessments to inform proposal strategies.
- Mentor colleagues in proposal writing and bid preparation.
Partnership Development
- Build and maintain relationships with donor organizations, government agencies, NGOs, and private sector actors.
- Facilitate the formation of partnerships for proposals and joint ventures.
- Maintain a partner database and coordinate meetings to strengthen collaboration.
Research and Intelligence
- Conduct strategic and operational research to inform CHAK’s business development strategy.
- Monitor and track business opportunities across priority regions and assess organizational fit.
- Manage business development processes, including pipeline tracking, quality assurance, and cross-divisional collaboration.
Knowledge Management and Training
- Support training programs to build CHAK’s internal capacity in business development.
- Produce technical materials, knowledge products, and lessons learned reports to enhance institutional memory.
Support to CHAK Business Services Limited
- Work with CHAK Business Services Limited to grow its portfolio through strategic partnerships and new business ventures.
Academic Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in economics, public health, development studies, health economics, project management, international relations, business administration, or related field from a recognized institution.
- A basic degree in a health-related field such as nursing, public health, or clinical medicine is an added advantage.
- A master’s degree in health economics, business administration, or related field is a significant advantage.
- Minimum of seven years’ progressive experience in business development, proposal writing, fundraising, or resource mobilization in the health or development sector.
- Proven record of successful institutional donor proposal development and portfolio growth.
- Practical knowledge of donor-funded project lifecycles, including capture, design, budgeting, compliance, and reporting.
- Familiarity with health programming or faith-based/community-driven development contexts is desirable.
Desired Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Strong writing, concept development, and strategic communication skills.
- In-depth understanding of local and international funding landscapes.
- Demonstrated leadership in coordinating proposal teams under tight deadlines.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to present compelling business cases.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with business intelligence or CRM tools is an asset.
