UNEP is seeking a Legal Intern to join its Nairobi Headquarters to support legal research, analysis, and advisory work within the organization’s mandate.
Job Description
The Legal Intern will work with UNEP’s legal affairs team, contributing to legal and policy matters affecting the organization’s operations and environmental programmes. Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting legal research and analysis on international and national environmental law, treaties, agreements, and regulations.
- Assisting in drafting, reviewing, and editing legal documents, contracts, and memoranda of understanding.
- Supporting the preparation of legal opinions, briefs, and reports for internal and external use.
- Assisting in the review of project agreements to ensure compliance with UN regulations and international law.
- Participating in the preparation of meeting notes, minutes, and background documents for legal consultations and negotiations.
- Assisting in organizing and supporting workshops, seminars, or training sessions on legal and policy issues.
- Maintaining legal files, databases, and records in accordance with UN procedures.
- Performing other legal or administrative duties as assigned to support the unit’s work.
Work Location
The internship will be based at UNEP Headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya.
Expected Duration
Duration will follow UNEP internship guidelines (to be confirmed upon selection).
