The Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife, through the State Department for Wildlife, is implementing the five-year project titled “Advancing Human-Wildlife Conflict Management Effectiveness in Kenya through an Integrated Approach.” This initiative is part of the Global Environment Fund (GEF) 8 Global Wildlife Program (GWP) and is executed with Conservation International (CI) as the GEF-accredited agency, and the State Department for Wildlife serving as the Lead Executing Agency.
To strengthen its implementation team, the State Department for Wildlife invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the following positions under the GWP-GEF 8 Kenya Project Management Unit (PMU). These positions are on a two-year contract basis with competitive remuneration and gratuity at the end of the contract.
1. Technical Lead – One (1) Position (Advert No. 1/2025)
Terms of Service: Two-year contract
Gross Monthly Remuneration: Ksh. 300,000 (Basic Salary: Ksh. 180,000; Allowances: Ksh. 120,000)
Gratuity: 31% of basic monthly salary for the total months worked
Reporting to: Principal Secretary, State Department for Wildlife or appointed representative
Key Roles and Responsibilities
- Provide overall leadership, management, and coordination of the GWP-GEF 8 Kenya PMU, overseeing all project activities to ensure alignment with strategic objectives.
- Direct strategic planning, resource management, and supervision to achieve project goals.
- Supervise all project personnel while enhancing local and institutional capacity through coaching and mentoring.
- Oversee grant implementation, ensuring quality design, staffing, and compliance with both GoK and donor requirements.
- Develop and maintain effective project reporting, evaluation, and communication systems.
- Conduct project and staff evaluations.
- Submit timely and accurate reports meeting both government and donor standards.
Requirements for Appointment
- Master’s degree in Wildlife Management, Economics, Finance, Accounting, Commerce, Statistics, Business Administration, Business Management, Project Management, Natural Resources Management, or equivalent from a recognized institution.
- Bachelor’s degree in related disciplines.
- Minimum of six years’ cumulative work experience in financial management or resource mobilization.
- Membership to a relevant professional body in good standing.
- Certificate in a leadership course.
- Proficiency in computer applications.
- Compliance with Chapter Six of the Constitution.
- Demonstrated competence in leadership, management, and understanding of national development goals.

2. Finance and Grants Officer – One (1) Position (Advert No. 2/2025)
Terms of Service: Two-year contract
Gross Monthly Remuneration: Ksh. 250,000 (Basic Salary: Ksh. 150,000; Allowances: Ksh. 100,000)
Gratuity: 31% of basic monthly salary for the total months worked
Reporting to: Technical Lead
Key Roles and Responsibilities
- Manage project contracts in strict adherence to GoK, donor requirements, and internal policies.
- Draft, review, and execute contractual agreements with legal and finance input.
- Build capacity of staff and contractors on grants and contracts management.
- Serve as liaison between the project, donor, contractors, and stakeholders.
- Coordinate donor visits, audits, and ensure timely documentation.
- Develop and monitor project budgets, forecasts, and financial plans.
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations and reporting requirements.
- Oversee disbursement of funds and maintain banking arrangements.
- Manage specific financial journals and bulk transfers.
- Handle Human Resource management and development for the project.
Requirements for Appointment
- Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Management, Business Administration, Project Management, or equivalent.
- Bachelor’s degree in related fields.
- At least four years’ work experience in project management, grants, and contracts—preferably in environmental or conservation sectors.
- CPA(K) qualification and membership with ICPAK or relevant professional body.
- Certificate in management course.

3. Procurement Officer – One (1) Position (Advert No. 3/2025)

Reporting to: Technical Lead
Key Roles and Responsibilities
- Develop and implement procurement plans aligned to project budgets and timelines.
- Manage end-to-end procurement processes and monitor supplier performance.
- Ensure compliance with GoK, donor, and internal procurement regulations.
- Maintain supplier databases and verify deliverables.
- Process and verify invoices before payment.
- Provide logistical and administrative procurement support.
Requirements for Appointment
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Procurement, Commerce (Supplies Management), Business Administration (Supplies Management), or equivalent.
- Minimum of four years’ work experience in procurement.
- Valid practicing license from KISM and membership to a relevant professional body.
- Certificate in management course.
- Proficiency in computer applications and compliance with Chapter Six of the Constitution.

4. Environmental and Social Safeguards Officer – One (1) Position (Advert No. 4/2025)

Key Roles and Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with environmental, social, and gender safeguards.
- Review and update safeguard plans including Stakeholder Engagement and Gender Mainstreaming Plans.
- Promote inclusion of vulnerable groups in project design.
- Conduct surveys and analyses on environmental, social, and gender impacts.
- Lead capacity-building and awareness sessions.
- Monitor safeguard performance indicators.
Requirements for Appointment
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Conservation, Natural Resource Management, or related field.
- At least three years’ relevant work experience in project design, monitoring, and evaluation in donor-funded projects.
- Proficiency in computer applications.
- Environmental Impact Assessment expert certification.

- Manage wildlife corridors and habitat restoration projects.
- Coordinate with local land use plans and community conservancies.
- Prepare reports on landscape intervention outcomes.

Requirements for Appointment
- Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Environmental Conservation, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Community Development, or related fields.

Reporting to: Technical Lead
Key Roles and Responsibilities
- Draft simple letters and maintain the office diary.
- Receive visitors and manage hospitality services.
- Maintain cleanliness of offices and perform messengerial duties.
Requirements for Appointment
- KCSE C- (minus) and above.
- Proficiency in computer applications.
- Certificate in hospitality.
- Certificate in Public Relations and Customer Care will be an added advantage.
