MSI Reproductive Choices Kenya, a registered non-governmental organisation and local implementing partner of MSI Reproductive Choices (UK), is dedicated to ensuring access to quality sexual and reproductive healthcare services. The organisation provides family planning, post-abortion care, cervical cancer screening, HIV/STI management, and other women’s health services, focusing on the most vulnerable communities.

As part of its commitment to delivering client-centred, high-quality, and sustainable healthcare, the organisation is seeking to recruit a Centre Manager for its Kisumu facility. The successful candidate will oversee the overall operations of the centre, including clinical services, business and financial management, staff supervision, and ensuring compliance with national and international healthcare standards. This role is vital in ensuring that every client receives compassionate care, safeguarding their dignity and respect, while also ensuring the financial and operational viability of the centre.


Job Description

The Centre Manager will be responsible for ensuring smooth running of the Kisumu Centre and maintaining a stable financial and operational performance. This role encompasses clinical service provision, business management, operational oversight, client care, quality assurance, people management, and accurate documentation.

The manager will report directly to the Channel Lead and will be expected to demonstrate commitment to MSI’s global values of mission-driven work, client focus, results orientation, sustainability, and people-centred approaches.


Key Responsibilities

1. Technical and Clinical Service Provision

  • Provide all clinical services in line with MSI protocols and guidelines, including short and long-term contraceptive methods, permanent methods such as tubal ligation and vasectomy where applicable, post-abortion care, cervical cancer screening and treatment, HIV/STI services, and other primary healthcare services as guided by MSK’s diversification strategy.
  • Adapt and introduce new services as part of business expansion.
  • Conduct weekly equipment checks, ensure timely reporting and follow-up on repairs and maintenance.
  • Maintain high infection control and cleanliness standards in compliance with clinical guidelines.
  • Ensure proper sterilisation, storage, and management of instruments.
  • Manage timely procurement and storage of medical supplies to avoid shortages or wastage.
  • Provide client support techniques during procedures to ensure comfort and trust.
  • Attend clinical trainings, workshops, and supervision sessions as scheduled.
  • Induct new providers and oversee proper usage of the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.

2. Business Management – Commercial and Financial

  • Prepare annual business plans with clear objectives and strategies for achieving them.
  • Continuously evaluate the financial viability of all services and adjust accordingly.
  • Monitor and deliver centre Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), managing income and expenditure effectively.
  • Organise monthly performance management meetings with the team to review progress and develop improvement strategies.
  • Foster a marketing culture across the team and develop local marketing strategies in coordination with the marketing department.
  • Build and maintain referral networks with local pharmacies, community health workers, and healthcare providers.
  • Safeguard centre finances by implementing robust accountability measures against fraud or revenue leakage.

3. Operational Management

  • Maximise client numbers by effectively managing staff resources, workflow systems, and minimising waiting times.
  • Ensure compliance with national healthcare standards and MSI protocols, taking immediate corrective measures where gaps are identified.
  • Develop contingency plans to manage potential risks to the centre’s operations.
  • Maintain proper stock management practices, avoiding stock-outs or expiries.
  • Ensure health, safety, and security of staff, clients, and facility assets.
  • Oversee proper use of IT systems, including EHR, biometrics, dispensing scanners, and security systems.

4. Client-Centred Care

  • Supervise the team to ensure services are client-focused, respectful, and dignified.
  • Ensure adherence to safeguarding policies and privacy of client information.
  • Support systematic collection of client feedback and address complaints promptly and respectfully.
  • Monitor staff-client interactions and provide constructive feedback for improvement.

5. Quality Management

  • Uphold quality management systems as per MSK and MSI standards.
  • Ensure staff competency assessments are conducted and only qualified staff provide services.
  • Maintain client records accurately on the EHR system.
  • Collate, analyse, and report on service data to monitor activity trends and guide improvements.
  • Support quality assurance initiatives, internal audits, and client satisfaction assessments.
  • Promote continuous learning and accountability in service delivery.

6. People Management

  • Ensure compliance with all MSK and MSI policies, including safeguarding, anti-fraud, and duty of care policies.
  • Motivate, engage, and communicate effectively with team members to foster ownership of centre objectives.
  • Oversee structured induction programmes for new staff and locums, ensuring competency before independent service delivery.
  • Take appropriate disciplinary measures for misconduct or underperformance, guided by HR policies.
  • Promote two-way communication channels and cultivate a culture of open feedback.
  • Identify training needs, coordinate staff development, and ensure participation in mandatory training.
  • Encourage continuous professional growth and lead by example in personal development.

7. Accurate Documentation and Reporting

  • Ensure proper documentation of all services rendered.
  • Safeguard client confidentiality in all records.
  • Prepare timely reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Analyse service delivery trends to inform planning and decision-making.
  • Facilitate accurate collection of client feedback and ensure timely resolution of complaints.

8. External Engagement and Promotion

  • Represent the centre positively in the local community through outreach, health education, and awareness campaigns.
  • Promote MSI Reproductive Choices Kenya as a trusted provider of reproductive and sexual health services.
  • Build partnerships that strengthen the centre’s reputation and client base.

Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in a health-related field such as nursing or clinical medicine.
  • Registration with the relevant professional council and possession of a valid practice licence.
  • Minimum of four years’ experience as a service provider in a reputable healthcare facility.
  • Business and management training is an advantage.
  • Practical knowledge in sexual reproductive health services, including FP-LARC and PAC, is desirable.
  • Strong clinical expertise and willingness to continually learn and upgrade skills.
  • High level of integrity, confidentiality, and commitment to client care.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, including effective supervision, delegation, and motivation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for both clients and staff.
  • Financial literacy with the ability to interpret and use financial information in decision-making.
  • High level of professionalism, ability to remain calm under pressure, and commitment to flexible service delivery.
  • Collaborative team player, open to constructive feedback, and skilled in offering feedback.
