The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is a premier research-to- policy institution, generating evidence, strengthening research and related capacity in the African research and development ecosystem, and engaging policy to inform action on health and development. APHRC seeks to drive change by developing strong African research leadership and promoting evidence-informed decision-making (EIDM) across sub-Saharan Africa.
APHRC is currently leading the Kenya Young Adolescents Gender Norms Study which aims to generate and strategically share evidence on the gender norms that influence behavior, health and socio-economic outcomes among young adolescents aged 10 – 14 years in Kenya.
To support this activity, APHRC invites applications from qualified individuals to serve as Quantitative Field Interviewers for the study. Data collection will take place in November 2025 – January 2026. Applicants residing in Kilifi, Taita Taveta, Makueni, Tharaka Nithi, Kirinyaga, Nairobi, Garissa, Migori, Kisumu, Kericho, Vihiga, Narok, Uasin Gishu and Turkana are encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities and duties
- Work with KNBS officers to conduct household listing in select enumeration areas and to identify eligible households based on a defined criterion.
- Obtain and document informed consent/assent from study participants prior to the interviews.
- Conduct and record interviews held with respondents using Survey CTO.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.
Minimum requirements
- KCSE certificate with a minimum of Grade C
- Proven experience in quantitative data collection and electronic data capture.
- Strong communication, interpersonal and report writing skills.
- Available to work full time on the project for the duration of the study.
- Resident in one of the counties – Kirinyaga, Kilifi, Taita Taveta, Makueni, Tharaka Nithi, Nairobi, Garissa, Migori, Kisumu, Narok, Uasin Gishu, Turkana, Kericho and Vihiga.
- Fluent in both oral and written English and Swahili. Familiarity with local languages spoken in the target counties is an added advantage.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively and collaborate with a large research team.
