The Machakos County Public Service Board is inviting qualified and committed professionals to apply for a wide range of healthcare positions. The positions available are within the nursing cadre and will be based at health facilities across Machakos County. Successful applicants will work under the supervision of the Department of Health and will contribute directly to patient care, health promotion, and medical support services.

Registered Nurse I

Duties and Responsibilities.

i. Receive, register, record and document patients’ information and present the same to the Medical Officers at the accident and emergency unit of the hospital.

ii. Transfer referred patients from the wards for further diagnosis or specialized treatment from other units of the hospital.

iii. Provide general nursing services and care to patients in the hospital.

iv. Support Medical Officers and Medical Specialists in attending to patients in accident and emergency of the hospital.

v. Administer medication to patients as prescribed by Medical Officers and Medical Specialists in the hospital.

vi. Administer patient care and nursing to outpatients in the hospital.

vii. Monitor patients’ progress in the hospital, document the same for clear patient records and report the same to the Medical Officers and Medical Specialists in the hospital.

viii. Liaise with other healthcare staff in handling patients with multiple of complex medical conditions in the hospital.

ix. Ensure that the nursing areas of the hospital are clean and tidy complying with sanitation standards of the hospital.

x. Perform any other duties as may be assigned.

Registered Nurse III – MCPSB/08/2025/329

Registered Nurse III

Duties and Responsibilities.

ii. Providing appropriate health care service including Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (IMCI), Immunization, PMTC, ante-natal care and delivery

iii. Providing health education and counselling to patients/clients and community on identified health needs

iv. Referring patients and clients appropriately

v. Facilitating patients’ admission and initiating discharge plans

vi. Maintaining records on patients’/clients’ health condition and care

vii. Ensuring a tidy and safe clinical environment

Registered Nurse I

Duties and Responsibilities.

i. Assist physicians with procedures such as bronchoscopy, endoscopy, endotracheal intubation, and elective cardioversion.

ii. Ensuring that ventilators, monitors, and other types of medical equipment function properly.

iii. Ensure that equipment or devices are properly stored after use.

iv. Prioritize nursing care for assigned critically ill patients based on assessment data and identified needs.

v. ICU nurses must be able to draw ABG Blood and interpret the report correctly.

vi. ICU nurses should have enough knowledge about GCS (Glasgow Coma Scale) and also the evaluation capacity of patient condition.; participating in quality improvement and quality assurance procedures; and diagnosing common health conditions and recommending necessary interventions.
