Applications are open for the 2025 “Liberté-Égalité-Fraternité” Human Rights Prize of the French Republic, awarded by the Prime Minister of the French Government.
This Prize, created in 1988, is awarded in recognition and support for the completion of individual or collective projects carried out in the field, in France or abroad, regardless of nationality or borders, to promote and protect human rights.
1. Theme
This yea’rs theme is Single theme : Exploitation and trafficking of children ?
Every year, tens of millions of children (hereinafter, ‘child’ refers to a person under the age of 18, in accordance with the definition in the International Convention on the Rights of the Child) are victimsof trafficking and exploitation, although it is impossible to estimate the exact number. Child trafficking and exploitation take many forms (forced labour, sexual exploitation, forced marriage, armed recruitment, etc.) and affect all ages, genders and nationalities. More than half of the victims are in their own country. This global, violent and evolving phenomenon constitutes a serious violation of children’s fundamental rights.
2. Application
Applications are open to individuals or non-governmental organisations with one or more field projects based on a human rights approach and aimed at preventing and combating child trafficking and exploitation.
Priority will be given to projects that, in accordance with children’s rights, provide comprehensive support for young people, transformative and restorative actions, and the active participation of children. These may include programmes for awareness-raising, victim identification and referral, reception and rehabilitation, training for stakeholders, advocacy and access to justice.

3. Award ceremony
The five winners of the Prize will be invited to Paris for the official award ceremony. They will receive a medal and share the total prize money of €70,000 allocated by the National Consultative Commission on Human Rights, which is intended to help them implement their projects. They will be able to claim to be winners of the 2025 edition of the French Republic’s Human Rights Prize. The following five winners will be awarded a ‘special mention’ medal by the French ambassador in their country of origin. Special mentions will not receive any financial prize. The winners and special mentions will be eligible for international protection from French diplomats.
