Job Summary

The Kenya Red Cross Training Institute is seeking experienced and passionate Lecturers to deliver courses in Disaster Management and Occupational Health and Safety. The successful candidates will contribute to curriculum development, research, and student mentorship, supporting the Institute’s mission of advancing humanitarian and safety education.


Scope of the Role

  • Develop and deliver courses in Disaster Management, Emergency Preparedness, Humanitarian Assistance, and Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Design, review, and update curricula, training manuals, and e-learning materials.
  • Supervise student research projects, field placements, and academic assessments.
  • Advise and support students in academic and administrative matters.
  • Conduct and publish research in relevant fields to advance knowledge.
  • Represent programs in recruitment drives, marketing events, and professional forums.
  • Foster partnerships with industry, NGOs, and government agencies.
  • Integrate global frameworks such as the Sendai Framework, ISO 45001, and SDGs into teaching.
  • Apply GIS tools and digital learning platforms to enhance student engagement.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional health and safety policies.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned.

Desired Competencies

  • Strong lesson planning and classroom management skills.
  • Knowledge of disaster risk reduction, emergency response, and occupational safety standards.
  • Proficiency in GIS software and digital learning tools.
  • Strong research, analytical, and academic writing abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Commitment to ethics, diversity, and continuous professional growth.
  • Fluency in English; Swahili is an added advantage.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Disaster Management, Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Public Health, or a related field (required).
  • Master’s degree in a relevant area (an added advantage).
  • Minimum of 3 years’ teaching or professional experience in disaster management, emergency response, or occupational safety.
  • Training in prehospital emergency medical care (advantageous).
  • Experience in risk audits, fire drills, and safety compliance (advantageous).
  • Certification in pedagogy or CBETA (preferred).
  • Field experience with NGOs or government agencies (desirable).
  • Experience with e-learning platforms (advantageous).
  • Evidence of research work or publications (added advantage).
