The Embassy of Finland in Nairobi is seeking a locally hired Coordinator for UN Affairs. The position is a fixed-term, employment-related position with the mission for the period 1.11.2025-31.3.2027 or as agreed.

Coordinator (UN Affairs)

The Embassy of Finland in Nairobi covers five countries and two UN organizations. The embassy employs a total of approximately 30 people. Working in the Foreign Service provides an opportunity to promote Finland’s interests abroad and to learn about both state administration and the everyday life of international relations.

The UN Coordinator works with and supports the Permanent Representative of Finland and the Deputy Permanent Representative in the following tasks:

  • participation in and reporting on the meetings of the governing bodies of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-7 in 2025) and other key meetings
  • Participation in working group work and EU coordination, including preparation of Finnish and EU positions
  • producing communication content on UN themes on the mission’s social media
  • visit arrangements
  • mapping and promoting commercial opportunities for Finnish companies at the UN site in Nairobi
  • contact with Finns working at the UN.

The applicant is expected to:

  • Relevant university degree, e.g. environmental sciences, political sciences, social sciences, law, business sciences
  • Understanding of environmental issues, the UN environmental system and sustainable development issues acquired through work or organizational experience
  • General understanding of the functioning of the UN system, acquired through work experience or otherwise
  • Good communication skills and ability to collaborate with various stakeholders
  • Ability to quickly produce short, clear and concise reports
  • Good pressure resistance
  • Excellent oral and written skills in Finnish and English, in addition, proficiency in other UN official languages ​​and Swedish is an advantage
  • Adapting to life and everyday life in a developing country.
