The role is based at the Optiven Global Office in Karen and reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The gross monthly salary for the role ranges between KES 250,000 and KES 300,000.

Job Purpose
The Chief Information & Technology Officer is responsible for overseeing the entire technology function of Optiven Group, covering both hardware and software systems. This leadership position is central to setting and executing the organization’s technology strategy in alignment with its overall business goals.
The position will involve guiding the company’s software commercialization efforts, ensuring reliable and secure IT infrastructure, maintaining data security and compliance, and identifying emerging technologies that support digital transformation. Furthermore, the role requires developing a cohesive and high-performing ICT team while ensuring day-to-day IT operations run efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
The Chief Information & Technology Officer will have a wide range of responsibilities structured under several key areas:
Technology Strategic Leadership
- Establish the overall technology strategy for the organization, ensuring it aligns with broader business strategies.
- Monitor global technology trends and evaluate potential opportunities that can add value to the business.
- Provide expert advice to the Board of Directors and senior executives on technology-related issues and future directions.
- Collaborate with the CEO and other members of the leadership team to align technology strategy with business growth objectives.
- Ensure that technology investments are prioritized and deliver competitive advantage.
Revenue Generation
- Conduct market research to track emerging trends and shifts in customer needs.
- Lead the development of software products that address market demands and create new revenue streams.
- Formulate sales strategies for technology-related products and services.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of sales strategies to ensure revenue targets are achieved.
- Ensure timely collection of customer payments as per agreed schedules.
Team Leadership
- Provide leadership that fosters a positive and productive team environment.
- Build and manage a cohesive technology team across different ICT functions.
- Define clear targets for team members, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.
- Lead regular performance check-ins, quarterly reviews, and half-year performance appraisals.
- Encourage accountability, ethical conduct, and agility within the ICT department.
- Collaborate with the HR department to manage performance, succession planning, and disciplinary matters.
IT Infrastructure and Operations
- Oversee management of all IT systems, including hardware, software, networks, and data centers.
- Guarantee that IT infrastructure is reliable, secure, and scalable in line with organizational growth.
- Ensure seamless day-to-day IT operations with minimal downtime.
- Implement best practices in IT service management, system integration, and infrastructure architecture.
- Develop IT governance policies and ensure compliance with relevant regulations and cybersecurity standards.
- Maintain business continuity and disaster recovery plans.
- Report regularly to the executive team and Board on IT compliance, risk management, and performance metrics.
Digital Transformation and Innovation
- Lead digital transformation projects aimed at modernizing systems and enhancing efficiency.
- Drive the adoption of cutting-edge technologies, including automation, artificial intelligence, and cloud-based solutions.
- Identify opportunities where technology can create new business value or streamline internal processes.
- Support teams across the organization in adopting new digital tools and methods of working.
Budget and Resource Management
- Develop and manage the annual technology budget to ensure effective allocation of resources.
- Balance the need for innovation with financial efficiency.
- Review and approve major technology purchases, vendor contracts, and monitor key IT operational metrics.
- Manage vendor relationships to ensure value for money and high-quality service delivery.
- Track performance and return on investment for technology initiatives.
Stakeholder Management and Collaboration
- Cultivate strong partnerships with vendors, regulators, and industry stakeholders.
- Promote adoption and use of digital tools across the organization.
- Facilitate effective communication between the ICT department and other business units.
- Represent Optiven Group in external technology forums and industry collaborations.
Other Duties
- Perform any additional responsibilities assigned by the CEO or Board of Directors as required.
Qualifications and Experience Requirements
- Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related discipline (MSc preferred).
- At least 10 years of progressive IT leadership experience, with a minimum of 5 years in executive or senior management roles.
- Membership in a recognized professional body is required.
