We are inviting applications for the position of Database Administrator on a three-year renewable contract. Job Type: Three (3) Year Contract
Reporting To: Business Systems Manager

Job Purpose

The Database Administrator will be responsible for designing, planning, implementing, and supporting the Bank’s database systems and related infrastructure. This position requires a professional who can not only ensure the smooth operation of critical banking systems but also provide technical leadership in areas such as performance optimization, data integrity, regulatory compliance, and cybersecurity coordination.

This is a role that combines technical expertise, strong problem-solving skills, and a keen eye for detail to maintain a secure and efficient database environment that supports the Bank’s strategic goals.


Key Responsibilities

The Database Administrator will be expected to:

  • Database Management & Maintenance
    • Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain database servers and application tools.
    • Allocate system storage and plan for future storage requirements.
    • Modify database structures in response to evolving business and application needs.
  • System Performance & Optimization
    • Monitor and optimize database performance through advanced tuning techniques.
    • Provide support for the Bank’s digital channels and core banking systems.
    • Generate reports and conduct data analysis to support business decision-making.
  • Backup, Recovery, and Continuity
    • Plan, implement, and test backup and recovery procedures to safeguard data.
    • Maintain archived data and ensure compliance with retention policies.
    • Develop and maintain business continuity plans for critical banking operations.
  • Security & Compliance
    • Enroll users and manage comprehensive security protocols.
    • Control and monitor access to databases using role-based access controls (RBAC).
    • Establish and maintain audit trails for all database activities.
    • Conduct regular access reviews and manage user privileges.
    • Support regulatory audits and examinations, ensuring proper documentation.
    • Ensure secure handling of Personally Identifiable Information (PII).
  • Incident & Risk Management
    • Establish procedures for incident response in relation to database issues.
    • Collaborate with the cybersecurity team on threat detection and response strategies.
    • Ensure compliance with regulatory and industry standards in data protection.
  • Collaboration & Leadership
    • Coordinate with vendors for technical support and maintain strong vendor relationships.
    • Document systems thoroughly for future reference and audits.
    • Mentor junior staff and lead database-related projects when required.

Required Technical Skills & Qualifications

The successful candidate should possess the following:

Education & Experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
  • At least 3 years of database administration experience, ideally within a financial institution.
  • Professional certifications such as Oracle DBA or Microsoft SQL Server Administrator are preferred.

Technical Expertise

  • Proficiency with multiple database platforms: Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL.
  • Strong knowledge of programming languages: SQL, PL/SQL, Shell scripting.
  • Experience with operating systems: Linux and Windows Server.
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools such as Oracle Enterprise Manager, SQL Server Management Studio, Nagios, Zabbix, SolarWinds.
  • Knowledge of backup solutions such as RMAN, SQL Server Backup, and third-party tools.

Banking Domain Knowledge

  • Solid understanding of banking operations and workflows.
  • Familiarity with payment systems and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Understanding of risk management principles and customer data protection laws.

Soft Skills & Competencies

  • Strong communication skills to explain technical concepts to non-technical teams.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical capabilities.
  • Effective time management with the ability to balance multiple tasks.
  • Keen attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
