Job Title: Head of Financial & Regulatory Reporting
Job Purpose
The Head of Financial & Regulatory Reporting is responsible for overseeing the preparation, accuracy, and timely distribution of management accounts and financial statements for both internal and external use. The role also ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, manages financial reporting frameworks, and provides leadership to a team of specialists in the Finance Department.
The successful candidate will play a central role in enhancing the accuracy and efficiency of HFC’s financial reporting processes, aligning them with global accounting standards (IFRS/IAS) and Central Bank of Kenya Prudential Guidelines.
Principal Accountabilities
The responsibilities of the Head of Financial & Regulatory Reporting are wide-ranging and crucial to the smooth functioning of HFC’s Finance Department. Key accountabilities include:
- Financial Reporting and Management Accounts
- Coordinate the preparation of periodic management reports and annual financial statements for the Bank, non-bank subsidiaries, and the wider Group.
- Prepare comprehensive reporting packs for senior management and board members to aid in informed decision-making.
- Align reporting timelines with executive management and board committee calendars.
- Regulatory Compliance and Submissions
- Ensure that regulatory reports adhere to the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) Prudential Guidelines.
- Drive process improvements to guarantee accurate and efficient reporting of regulatory capital and liquidity.
- Adapt financial reporting systems to accommodate CBK’s evolving requirements.
- Oversee the preparation and timely submission of financial reports to regulatory bodies, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Performance Monitoring and Analysis
- Coordinate the preparation of daily performance reports with analysis of key performance indicators.
- Provide detailed explanations of adverse movements in business performance to senior management.
- Conduct monthly comparative analyses, calculate financial ratios, and prepare written explanations of major variances for the Finance leadership team.
- Audit and Internal Controls
- Facilitate and coordinate both internal and external audits to ensure compliance and timely resolution of audit queries.
- Liaise with auditors and address all issues raised promptly and effectively.
- Enhance audit readiness through efficient internal controls and reporting processes.
- Leadership and Team Development
- Oversee a team of specialists in financial reporting, providing mentorship, coaching, and career development opportunities.
- Build a motivated and knowledgeable finance team capable of delivering high-quality financial and regulatory reports.

- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel for financial modeling and reporting.

- Familiarity with ERP systems, core banking systems, and Microsoft Office applications.

Minimum Qualifications, Knowledge, and Experience
- Education:
- A first degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related business field.
- CPA (K) qualification is mandatory.
- A master’s degree in a business-related field is an added advantage.
- Experience:
- At least 12 years’ experience in finance, with a minimum of 6 years in the banking sector.
- At least 5 years in a senior management role.
