Job Purpose
The Manager – Operational Risk will actively contribute to the development, enhancement, and implementation of the Bank’s Operational Risk Framework. The role will focus on operational risk identification, measurement, monitoring, and reporting while ensuring effective control environments. The position will also play an important role in building organizational awareness, supporting business units in risk-related issues, and ensuring continuous improvements in the risk and compliance functions.
Principal Accountabilities
As Manager – Operational Risk, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following key deliverables:
- Framework Development and Implementation
- Provide leadership in planning, developing, and implementing operational risk frameworks, including policies, standards, measurement methodologies, and procedures.
- Drive the embedding of the operational risk framework across all business units, ensuring alignment with the bank’s risk appetite and regulatory guidelines.
- Operational Risk Data and Monitoring
- Maintain a comprehensive operational loss database to track and monitor risk events.
- Map internal loss data reported by business units into relevant business line and loss event categories as per the Operational Risk Management policy.
- Prepare regular management reports, metrics, and dashboards highlighting risk issues, trends, potential impacts, and recommendations for mitigation.
- Risk Assessment and Reviews
- Coordinate the implementation of the Risk & Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) framework and Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) across various business and support units.
- Perform independent reviews to assess compliance with policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements, identifying exceptions or violations.
- Monitor and influence progress of action plans to strengthen controls arising from risk assessments, audits, and regulatory inspections.
- Incident Investigation and Root Cause Analysis
- Investigate root causes of operational risk incidents and provide solutions to mitigate identified risks.
- Engage Risk Champions on emerging risks, long-standing issues, and RCSA reviews to ensure timely resolution.
- Policy and Procedure Custodianship
- Act as custodian of all bank policies and operational procedures.
- Maintain a review schedule to ensure policies remain relevant, adequate, and compliant.
- New Products, Processes, and Projects
- Review all new products, processes, and business initiatives to identify and mitigate potential operational risk exposures.
- Play an active guidance role in projects, ensuring risk considerations are addressed from inception to rollout.
- Business Continuity and SLA Adherence
- Support Business Continuity Plan (BCP) testing to ensure readiness for potential disruptions.
- Ensure timely and efficient feedback to stakeholders in line with set service-level agreements (SLAs).

Minimum Qualifications, Knowledge, and Experience
- Academic Qualification
- A degree in Commerce, ICT, Finance, Banking, or a related field.
- Professional Qualification
- Professional certification in Risk Management, Compliance, or related areas will be an added advantage.
- Experience
- At least 8 years of relevant experience, with a minimum of 5 years in enterprise risk management and operational risk execution.
