Job Details

Role Purpose

The Kiswahili Teacher will be responsible for planning, delivering, and assessing high-quality lessons that align with the Competency-Based Education (CBE) curriculum. The role demands ensuring that students achieve academic excellence while promoting the Academy’s values of integrity, innovation, and inclusivity.

The successful candidate will also contribute to the wider school community by supporting co-curricular activities, pastoral care, and professional development initiatives.


Key Accountabilities

1. Planning and Delivery

  • Develop and deliver engaging and differentiated lessons that meet CBE standards.
  • Collaborate in designing unit/lesson plans, course outlines, and records of work.
  • Integrate technology and active learning strategies to enhance teaching.
  • Implement flipped learning approaches for home assignments.
  • Support and participate in intervention programmes targeting learner improvement.

2. Assessment

  • Design formative and summative assessments aligned with CBE.
  • Provide timely, constructive verbal and written feedback to learners.
  • Generate academic progress reports and administer examinations effectively.
  • Contribute to setting and moderating assessments in line with institutional expectations.
  • Analyse learner performance data to guide instructional adjustments.

3. Classroom Management

  • Ensure punctuality and consistent adherence to teaching schedules.
  • Manage student behaviour within classrooms, around the school, and during academic trips.
  • Foster a supportive and stimulating teaching environment.
  • Utilize resources and the Academy’s Learning Management System effectively.
  • Maintain discipline while encouraging creativity and learner autonomy.

4. Professional Responsibilities

  • Undertake pastoral duties, including serving as a homeroom tutor.
  • Participate in co-curricular activities and guide students in life skills.
  • Contribute to departmental and school-wide engagements.
  • Take ownership of personal professional development, actively participating in CPD.
  • Maintain collaborative working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the school’s cultural development and overall ethos.
  • Set measurable objectives in line with the school’s appraisal system.
  • Maintain an up-to-date professional portfolio tracking individual growth.
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned by senior leadership.

Technical and Professional Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education with a specialization in Kiswahili or related subject combination.
  • Must be registered with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
  • Minimum of 5 years teaching experience in a reputable institution.
  • Strong ability to foster supportive learning environments.
  • Proven professionalism, strong organizational abilities, and teamwork spirit.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
