Kenya Defence Forces Recruitment – October 2025
The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) is pleased to announce to the public the upcoming recruitment of General Service Officer (GSO) Cadets (Regular and Graduates), Specialist Officers, General Duty Recruits, Tradesmen/women, and Defence Forces Constables, scheduled to take place in October 2025.
Important Notice
WARNING: The Kenya Defence Forces recruitment drive is FREE and OPEN to all eligible and qualified candidates.

General Requirements
All prospective candidates must meet the following conditions:
- Citizenship & Identification
- Be a Kenyan citizen.
- Hold a valid National Identity Card.
- Present original documents together with four (4) copies of National ID, KRA PIN Certificate, and Academic Certificates.
- Age
- 18–26 years: GSO Cadets (Regular & Graduates) and General Duty Recruits.
- Not above 30 years: Specialist Officers and Tradesmen/women.
- Not above 39 years: Chaplains/Imams.
- Conduct & Records
- Must have no criminal record.
- Physical Standards
- Minimum Height: Men 1.60m (5ft 3in), Women 1.52m (5ft).
- Minimum Weight: Men 54.55kg (120lb), Women 50.00kg (110lb).
- BMI must be below 30.
- Female candidates must not be pregnant at recruitment or during training.
- Medical
- Must be medically fit as per KDF standards.
- Experience
- Specialist Officers and Tradesmen/women must have at least two (2) years’ practising experience in their field after registration with the relevant statutory body.
- Verification
- Selected candidates will undergo final verification at designated KDF training institutions.
Minimum Academic Qualifications
- GSO Cadets – Regular
- KCSE mean grade B (Plain) with C+ (Plus) in English, Mathematics, and one Science subject.
- Training period: 3 years, leading to a BSc in Defence and Security Studies.
- GSO Cadets – Graduate
- Must meet GSO Cadet – Regular requirements.
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree in specified disciplines (see vacancies section).
- Training period: 15 months.
- Specialist Officers
- Must meet GSO Cadet – Regular requirements.
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree in relevant fields and be registered with a statutory body (where applicable).
- Chaplains/Imams: KCSE mean grade C+ (Plus) plus theological qualifications.
- Training period: 6 months.
- Service Members (General Duty Recruits)
- KCSE mean grade D (Plain).
- NYS graduates with required conditions will have an added advantage.
- Tradesmen/women
- Diploma Holders: KCSE mean grade C (Plain) plus relevant Diploma or higher, and statutory registration where applicable.
- Certificate Holders (Artisans): KCSE mean grade D+ (Plus) plus relevant Trade Test Grade II or Craft II certification.
- Constables
- Retired KDF Members: Age 30–55, with Discharge Certificate rated “Good”, minimum 9 years of service, and retired honourably.
- Retired NYS Members: Age 35–45, with Discharge Certificate rated “Good”.

- Certificate holders (Artisans): Automotive Electrician, Carpentry, Electrical/Electronics, Plant Operations, Tailoring, Vehicle Mechanics, Welding/Fabrication, Catering, Plumbing, Painting, Decoration, etc.

- Mandatory Online Application: All candidates applying for GSO Cadets (Regular and Graduates), Specialist Officers, and Tradesmen/women must apply via the recruitment portal:

- Shortlisting: Successful candidates will be notified in the print media between 21st – 24th October 2025.

Recruitment of General Duty Recruits & Constables
Recruitment for General Duty Recruits and Defence Forces Constables will be conducted at designated recruitment centres by KDF teams from the Kenya Army, Kenya Air Force, and Kenya Navy. The recruitment itinerary will be provided separately.
