Job Purpose

The Cluster Financial Accountant plays a critical role in leading financial operations across the cluster. This position ensures compliance with DHL Group’s policies, oversees treasury and accounting functions, manages audits, optimizes balance sheet health, and drives digital and process improvements. Beyond numbers, the role requires strong leadership to guide a motivated team, strategic thinking for financial risk management, and a collaborative spirit to partner effectively with internal and external stakeholders.


Key Responsibilities

As a Cluster Financial Accountant, you will:

  • Lead and Manage the Accounting Team: Oversee accounting operations within the cluster, ensuring collaboration between local teams and shared service centres.
  • Policy Compliance: Ensure adherence to DHL Group and DGF financial, treasury, and supplier lifecycle management policies.
  • Cash Flow and Treasury Oversight: Monitor and guide Procure-to-Pay (PTP) and treasury processes to guarantee smooth and efficient payment operations.
  • Month-End Close (MEC) Coordination: Align tasks across accounting towers and shared service teams for efficient MEC completion.
  • Audit Management: Coordinate statutory, internal, and tax audits, ensuring all are completed accurately and within deadlines.
  • Balance Sheet Reconciliations: Oversee Blackline reconciliations and proactively address issues to safeguard financial health.
  • Internal Controls: Ensure robust implementation of controls with proper evidence for ICON purposes.
  • Financial Approvals: Authorize supplier invoices, journals, and petty cash/mobile money reconciliations as per the approvals matrix.
  • VAT Management: Review VAT reconciliations, resolve discrepancies, and coordinate accurate tax filings with GBS tax teams.
  • Staff-Related Accounting: Manage Concur, payroll accruals, provisions, and staff accounts effectively.
  • Fixed Asset Reporting: Oversee accurate management and reporting of fixed assets.
  • Project Sponsorship: Lead and sponsor finance-related system and process improvement projects.
  • Additional Duties: Take on special projects and responsibilities as directed by business needs.

Finance-Specific Knowledge

The Cluster Financial Accountant must have a deep understanding of core finance functions within DHL Global Forwarding:

  • Accounting (RTR): Ensure accurate preparation, consolidation, and reporting of financial statements, records, and compliance requirements.
  • Accounts Payable (PTP): Manage invoice processing from receipt to payment, ensuring accuracy and timely completion.
  • Balance Sheet & Risk Management: Maintain integrity of financial records while mitigating risks.
  • Cash Flow Management: Monitor and optimize inflows and outflows to ensure liquidity and investment capability.
  • ESG Reporting: Guarantee accurate Environmental, Social, and Governance reporting as per Group standards.
  • Foreign Exchange Rate Management: Mitigate risks from exchange rate fluctuations to protect profitability.
  • Tax Management: Partner with GBS Tax to ensure compliance, accurate filings, and tax strategy optimization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
  • CPA or equivalent professional finance qualification.
  • Minimum of 8 years’ professional experience in financial management, accounting, or a related field.
