Job Summary

The Manager, Human Resource Management will be responsible for spearheading HR initiatives that align with the corporate strategy. The role oversees the full spectrum of HR functions, including talent attraction, acquisition, and retention; performance management; employee engagement; and compliance with legal and regulatory frameworks.

This position requires a visionary leader capable of building sustainable systems, fostering industrial harmony, and ensuring organizational practices reflect inclusivity, fairness, and compliance.


Key Duties and Responsibilities

The duties of the Manager, Human Resource Management will include but are not limited to:

  1. Strategic HR Leadership
    • Develop and implement HR strategies, policies, and structures aligned with the organization’s overall corporate strategy.
    • Provide strategic guidance to management on people-related matters and long-term workforce planning.
  2. Policy and Compliance
    • Formulate, update, and enforce the organization’s code of conduct.
    • Ensure compliance with relevant employment laws and labor regulations.
    • Oversee implementation of government directives on gender, disability, HIV/AIDS, and social cohesion.
  3. Recruitment and Talent Management
    • Manage end-to-end recruitment processes including attraction, onboarding, and induction.
    • Design and oversee employee retention programs to minimize turnover and improve job satisfaction.
  4. Employee Welfare and Benefits
    • Develop and oversee welfare programs and insurance schemes to support employee wellbeing.
    • Ensure staff are adequately covered under health, safety, and welfare programs.
  5. Industrial Relations and Union Engagement
    • Lead negotiations with unions, ensuring smooth implementation of Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs).
    • Foster industrial harmony by maintaining constructive relationships with employee representatives.
  6. Performance and Development
    • Develop and implement effective performance management systems.
    • Facilitate training and development programs that enhance staff capacity and leadership pipelines.
  7. Records and HR Administration
    • Maintain accurate HR records and oversee employee data management.
    • Handle disciplinary matters, disputes, and staff separations in accordance with policy and law.
  8. Compensation and Benefits
    • Develop equitable remuneration structures aligned to market standards.
    • Ensure compliance with organizational policies and ISO standards related to employee compensation.
  9. Workplace Safety
    • Oversee provision of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
    • Monitor and ensure compliance with occupational health and safety standards.
  10. Reporting and Budgeting
    • Prepare departmental budgets, procurement plans, and HR reports for management review.
    • Track and report on HR initiatives and their impact on organizational performance.

Person Specifications

To qualify for this role, an applicant must demonstrate the following minimum requirements:

  • Experience: At least 12 years in a relevant HR field, with 4 years in middle management within a large organization or equivalent.
  • Education:
    • Master’s degree in Human Resource Management or related field from a recognized institution.
    • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management or related field from a recognized institution.
  • Professional Development:
    • Completed a management course of not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution.
    • Certified Human Resource Professional – CHRP (K) or equivalent from a recognized institution.
  • Membership: Must be a member in good standing of the Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM).
  • Legal Requirements: Must have fulfilled the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya.
