The Kenya School of Law (KSL) is a premier public legal education provider mandated by the Government of Kenya to deliver professional legal training. Its core functions are outlined in Section 4 of the Kenya School of Law Act, Cap. 16C. Guided by its vision of becoming “a centre of excellence in professional legal training, research and consultancy”, the School continues to shape the future of legal practice and education across the country.

In order to strengthen efficiency, drive transformation, and reinforce its capacity to meet its statutory obligations, KSL is seeking to recruit dynamic, visionary, and results-oriented professionals who can join its dedicated team. The positions call for independent thinkers who are customer-focused, strategic in approach, and committed to excellence.

Currently, the School invites applications for the following positions:


1. DIRECTOR / CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

Grade: KSL 1
Reference: KSL/HR10/2025

Overall Purpose of the Job

This position, established under Section 14 of the Kenya School of Law Act, Cap. 16C, is the highest leadership role within the institution. The Director/Chief Executive Officer is charged with implementing decisions of the Board in a results-oriented manner and is responsible for the overall management of the School. The role requires strategic foresight, strong leadership, and the ability to translate vision into actionable results. The Director reports to the Board of Directors.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The Director/CEO will be expected to:

  • Provide strategic leadership in line with the School’s mandate.
  • Advise the Board on strategies to ensure effective implementation of the Kenya School of Law Act.
  • Implement policies, regulations, and strategies that advance the objectives of the School.
  • Serve as Secretary to the Board and act as the link between the Board and Management.
  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation of Board papers and their circulation.
  • Oversee the implementation of corporate programmes and approved budgets.
  • Establish and maintain internal controls to ensure accountability.
  • Recruit, develop, and retain qualified staff for the School.
  • Promote ethical practices, good governance, and effective risk management systems.
  • Safeguard all institutional assets, including movable and immovable property.
  • Oversee all examinations within the School’s mandate and ensure integrity in their administration.
  • Uphold compliance with statutory obligations and relevant legislation.
  • Promote a culture of discipline, performance, and efficiency among staff.

Qualification Requirements

Applicants must demonstrate the following:

  • At least fifteen (15) years of work experience, with a minimum of five (5) years at senior management level.
  • Bachelor of Laws (LL.B), Master of Laws (LL.M), and Doctorate (PhD) in Law from recognized institutions.
  • Post-graduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law.
  • Admission as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya.
  • Proficiency in computer applications.
  • Completion of a leadership course lasting not less than four (4) weeks (an added advantage).
  • Compliance with the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution and the Leadership and Integrity Act.

Key Competencies and Skills

  • Strong organizational, analytical, and leadership abilities.
  • In-depth knowledge of legal education legislation and sectoral trends.
  • Demonstrated scholarship with at least two publications.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and reporting skills.
  • Strategic thinking, interpersonal skills, and ability to build relationships with stakeholders.
  • Customer-centric orientation with negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Proven ability to deliver results under strict deadlines.

Remuneration

Gross salary: Kshs. 520,000 – 678,400 per month.
