With a mission to make clean energy and climate solutions accessible to households at scale, KOKO has become a pioneer in driving sustainable change through technology, distribution networks, and carbon reduction programs.

Our business is centered around two primary lines:

Delivered through a vast distribution network that includes agents and smart fuel ATMs, KOKO Fuel provides households with a safer, more affordable, and eco-friendly alternative to traditional fuels.

By leveraging this approach, KOKO contributes directly to global climate action while providing innovative solutions that benefit both people and the planet.

In recognition of its groundbreaking impact, KOKO Networks was named the world’s leading emerging markets climate technology solution in 2021 by the Financial Times and the International Finance Corporation. This is an organization where ambition, innovation, and collaboration drive everything we do.

Now, KOKO is opening doors for young professionals seeking to learn, grow, and contribute to our mission. We are currently recruiting Interns to join our team in Nyahururu, Kenya. This opportunity is designed for motivated individuals who are eager to gain real-world experience, learn from industry leaders, and play a role in delivering innovative solutions at scale.

About the Role – Internship at KOKO Networks

As an Intern at KOKO Networks, you will become part of a highly dynamic environment that values learning, creativity, and execution. This role is tailored to give you exposure to field operations, data integrity management, compliance monitoring, and performance tracking within the Access Program.

The internship is structured to provide mentorship, professional development, and practical experience in managing sub-agents who operate outside the traditional network. Interns will work closely with experienced Territory Managers, participate in pilot programs, and contribute to new initiatives that push the boundaries of clean energy access.

This is not a desk-only internship. It requires field visits, audits, and active engagement with sub-agents. It offers interns the chance to truly understand how grassroots networks operate, how compliance and performance are monitored, and how new solutions are tested in real-world conditions.

Key Responsibilities

As an intern in this program, your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting Pilot Initiatives: Assist in piloting and executing new initiatives under the Access Program, focusing particularly on Sub Agents who operate outside the standard network. This includes being part of trials, evaluating feasibility, and supporting rollout activities.
  • Managing Sub Agents: Actively manage a portfolio of assigned Sub Agents. This involves ensuring they meet performance targets, comply with company policies, and submit timely reports. You will provide guidance and help troubleshoot operational challenges.
  • Field Visits and Oversight: Conduct at least two physical visits per week to each assigned Sub Agent. These visits will provide on-ground oversight, reinforce compliance, and build relationships to ensure smooth operations.
  • Audits and Data Verification: Perform physical audits of records submitted by Sub Agents. This ensures accuracy, integrity, and reliability of the data, which is critical for both operational and compliance purposes.
  • Insights Collection and Reporting: Collect both qualitative and quantitative data from Sub Agents using the provided tools and templates. These insights will contribute to better decision-making and help shape future initiatives.
  • Journey Plan Adherence: Follow a pre-approved journey plan for your field activities. Accurate documentation and record-keeping of all tasks and visits are expected to maintain transparency and accountability.
  • Other Assigned Duties: Carry out additional duties as assigned by the Territory Manager. This could involve participating in cross-functional projects, supporting training sessions, or assisting in administrative tasks.

What KOKO Is Looking For

KOKO Networks is searching for individuals who are eager to learn, motivated to contribute, and passionate about sustainability. The ideal intern should demonstrate the following qualities:

  • Education: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university. This provides the foundation to understand the role and responsibilities effectively.
  • Planning and Organization: Strong ability to organize tasks, plan ahead, and manage time effectively. This is essential given the field-based nature of the role.
  • Ability to Work Under Pressure: Resilience and the ability to deliver results with minimal supervision, even in challenging or fast-paced environments.
  • Integrity: Unquestionable integrity and adherence to ethical standards. Given the role’s focus on compliance and audits, honesty and accountability are critical.

Why Join KOKO Networks as an Intern?

  1. Hands-On Experience: Gain practical exposure in field management, audits, compliance, and pilot program execution.
  2. Professional Growth: Work directly under experienced Territory Managers and be mentored in critical operational and managerial skills.
  3. Impactful Work: Contribute to solutions that improve lives, reduce deforestation, and address global climate challenges.
  4. Collaborative Environment: Be part of a dynamic, supportive team that values creativity, initiative, and diversity of thought.
  5. Future Opportunities: An internship at KOKO can serve as a stepping stone toward full-time opportunities within the organization, depending on performance and business needs.
