We invite applications for the position of Chief Finance Officer (CFO) to be based at our Global Office in Karen, Nairobi. This position reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and offers a competitive salary package of KES 350,000 – 400,000 gross per month.

Job Purpose

The Chief Finance Officer will lead Optiven Group’s Finance and Accounting functions with a focus on driving financial integrity, strategic alignment, and operational excellence. The role goes beyond managing numbers — it involves shaping long-term financial strategy, building high-performing teams, optimizing profitability, and safeguarding the organization against risks.

The CFO will serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO and the Board of Directors, ensuring decisions are informed by financial insights and grounded in sound analysis. From developing strategies for growth and investment to ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, the CFO will play a pivotal role in sustaining Optiven’s success story.


Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Financial Planning

  • Lead the development and implementation of long-term financial strategies aligned with the Group’s vision and business units.
  • Partner with the CEO to provide financial insights that drive strategic decision-making.
  • Monitor macroeconomic indicators such as inflation, real estate growth patterns, and regulatory changes to anticipate risks and opportunities.
  • Prioritize capital allocation toward high-potential land corridors and infrastructure projects.
  • Oversee comprehensive budgeting and ensure alignment with master planning timelines.

2. Team Leadership

  • Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing finance team across multiple functions.
  • Ensure staff have clear goals and measurable performance targets.
  • Drive a culture of accountability, innovation, and integrity within the finance team.
  • Lead succession planning, disciplinary management, and performance reviews in collaboration with HR.
  • Champion change management for financial systems and processes, ensuring continuous improvement.

3. Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Oversee preparation of accurate financial statements, budgets, and key performance indicators.
  • Develop ROI and feasibility models for land acquisition, subdivision, and resale projects.
  • Support strategic decisions with data-driven financial insights.
  • Build capital and pricing models to maximize returns on phased projects.
  • Promote transparency and accountability in reporting to both leadership and stakeholders.

4. Cash Management & Liquidity

  • Manage cash flow to ensure adequate liquidity for operational, debt servicing, and project needs.
  • Optimize receivables and collections to support cash flow.
  • Safeguard company assets for maximum value realization.
  • Structure financing deals for strategic land and capital investments.
  • Foster strong relationships with banks, investors, and business partners.

5. Financial Operations & Compliance

  • Ensure strict compliance with tax laws, accounting standards, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Oversee internal controls and streamline processes such as procurement, vendor payments, and receivables.
  • Manage audits and implement recommendations to minimize risk exposure.
  • Leverage financial technologies and data analytics to enhance efficiency.
  • Uphold best practices in financial stewardship and governance.

6. Growth and Profitability Optimization

  • Collaborate with sales, projects, and legal departments to optimize pricing and cash flow strategies.
  • Identify growth opportunities while reducing costs through efficient infrastructure planning.
  • Monitor landholding costs and plan strategic divestments.
  • Use data analytics to improve pricing strategies, marketing efforts, and buyer conversion rates.

7. Risk Management

  • Identify, assess, and mitigate financial, operational, market, and compliance risks.
  • Set up strong internal controls across all financial operations.
  • Develop dashboards for real-time monitoring of risk and compliance indicators.
  • Lead anti-fraud programs, KYC protocols, and internal audit trails.
  • Ensure adequate insurance and reserves to safeguard business continuity.

8. Other Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic advisories to the Board on financial health and emerging risks.
  • Support cross-functional projects that enhance value creation.
  • Carry out additional tasks assigned by the CEO as necessary.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Business Administration.
  • Master’s Degree (MBA) in Finance or Strategic Management.
  • CPA-K (Certified Public Accountant) – mandatory.
  • Professional certification in investment management is an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 15 years of work experience, with at least 10 years in financial leadership roles and 3 years leading a finance department.
  • Membership in a professional body such as ICPAK or ACCA.
