SunCulture is seeking a Field Engineer based in Nyahururu, Nyandarua County, Kenya to join its Engineering team.


About the Role

The Field Engineer will report to the Engineering Team Lead and play a critical role in ensuring that SunCulture’s innovative solar-powered irrigation and water solutions are delivered and maintained efficiently. This role involves conducting technical surveys, managing installations, providing after-sales services, and ensuring customers receive the highest level of product support.

Beyond installations, the Field Engineer will serve as a product knowledge champion, mentor, and problem solver. This is a hands-on, field-based position requiring strong technical skills, excellent communication abilities, and the resilience to thrive in a fast-paced environment.


Key Responsibilities

The Field Engineer will be responsible for the following:

Project Management

  • Undertake site visits for pre-feasibility and feasibility information collection and analysis.
  • Contact clients to arrange preferred installation dates and complete installations within agreed timelines.
  • Proactively identify risks during installations, resolve them promptly, and escalate where necessary.
  • Communicate and mitigate field-related risks with the Engineering Team Lead.

Technical Execution

  • Conduct technical surveys and submit detailed reports to the Engineering team.
  • Design irrigation systems tailored to customer needs, carry out installations, and deliver high-quality after-sales services.
  • Perform at least two installations per day while maintaining high quality standards.
  • Ensure turnaround time for job completion is under two days on average.
  • Maintain full adherence to SunCulture’s internal job management systems and app protocols.

Customer Service and Aftersales

  • Provide expert recommendations to clients on products suited to their specific needs during technical surveys.
  • Report emerging issues from installations and after-sales visits to relevant departments promptly.
  • Collaborate with the after-sales department to ensure timely resolution of customer issues.
  • Build strong customer relationships by ensuring consistent, transparent, and supportive communication.

Mentorship and Training

  • Mentor and provide in-field training to new engineers.
  • Share knowledge and technical expertise to strengthen the capabilities of the wider engineering team.

Administration and Reporting

  • Complete and sync Job Submission Forms (JSFs) in the company’s apps within the same day of installations or after-sales visits.
  • Vet clients and initiate product dispatches once requirements are met.
  • Consistently achieve app adherence of 100% for all assigned jobs.

Skills and Experience

To succeed in this role, SunCulture is seeking candidates who bring both technical expertise and a proactive, customer-focused mindset. Desired skills and qualifications include:

  • A Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. Specialization in agricultural equipment is an added advantage.
  • 2+ years of experience in solar grid pump systems, irrigation system management, or related technical fields.
  • Strong hands-on technical skills with proven ability in installation and conducting technical surveys.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken, with the ability to interact with clients of diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to work independently and thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with attention to detail.
  • Resilience, adaptability, and the ability to train and mentor others effectively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and database management. Knowledge of CAD or project design software is an advantage.
  • Deep knowledge of the solar energy and irrigation industry, including awareness of current trends.
