Position Overview: Investment Analyst and Investment Associate
CrossBoundary Energy is hiring full-time Investment Analysts and Investment Associates to join the Investment team in Nairobi, Kenya. These professionals will be instrumental in supporting fundraising, project due diligence, portfolio management, and risk mitigation.
You will work closely with the Business Development, Portfolio, and Structuring teams, gaining exposure to a wide range of investment activities across the renewable energy sector.
Key Responsibilities
1. Fundraising
- Prepare equity and debt capital raising materials for both corporate and project-level transactions.
- Build and manage financial models, presentations, investment memoranda, and due diligence Q&A materials.
- Support structuring of fundraising processes to secure optimal financing solutions.
2. Strategic Due Diligence and Investment
- Conduct assessments of corporate and project investment opportunities.
- Ensure alignment with portfolio objectives, risk appetite, and expected returns.
- Contribute to decision-making processes by delivering robust analysis.
3. Project Development Support
- Analyze the economics and risks of projects under development.
- Review power purchase agreements, procurement contracts, and operational frameworks.
- Collaborate with the Business Development team to ensure projects are financially sound.
4. Portfolio Management
- Maintain portfolio financial models.
- Track performance metrics and report on investment outcomes.
- Identify performance gaps and propose solutions.
5. Structuring
- Support portfolio- and project-level structuring of capital, tax, and corporate arrangements.
- Optimize economic outcomes for both investors and clients.
6. Inorganic Growth (M&A)
- Analyze and execute project and corporate M&A initiatives.
- Conduct valuation, due diligence, and deal execution support.
7. Investor Management
- Prepare investor updates and engagement materials.
- Strengthen relationships with existing and potential investors.
8. Risk Mitigation
- Identify, assess, and mitigate investment risks.
- Ensure compliance with international best practices and internal frameworks.
Required Skills and Experience
- Professional background:
- Analysts: 1–2 years’ experience.
- Associates: 3–5 years’ experience.
- Prior experience in any of the following:
- Energy, infrastructure, or project finance at a top-tier investment or commercial bank, or Big 4 professional services firm.
- Specialist financial advisory firms or investment funds focused on energy/infrastructure.
- Investment teams at successful energy developers.
- Core skills:
- Demonstrated expertise in corporate/project finance, financial modeling, due diligence, investment analysis, fundraising, and/or transaction execution.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Excellent presentation and stakeholder management skills.
- Additional experience:
- Familiarity with African markets, particularly in the energy sector.
- Ability to manage multiple, complex workstreams in parallel.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills across jurisdictions and cultures.
