Position: Reliability Monitoring Engineer
Overview
The Reliability Monitoring Engineer is responsible for analysing and improving the reliability, performance, and safety of aircraft systems. By identifying trends, conducting in-depth data analysis, and recommending corrective actions, the role ensures that airworthiness is maintained, regulatory requirements are met, and aircraft systems continue to perform efficiently throughout their operational life.
This is a critical role within our organisation, as it directly contributes to operational reliability, customer satisfaction, and cost efficiency.
Key Accountabilities
As a Reliability Monitoring Engineer, your responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:
- Reliability Program Development: Develop comprehensive reliability program plans, perform detailed reliability analysis, and apportion failure rates to different systems and subsystems. Prepare reliability predictions, reports, and improvement recommendations.
- Procedures and Standards: Develop and maintain work instructions and procedures for the reliability section to ensure standardisation and compliance with both company and regulatory requirements.
- Safety and Hazard Analysis: Perform system and subsystem safety hazard analyses, assign hazard ratings, and propose effective mitigation strategies. Ensure hazards are tracked and managed to acceptable levels of risk.
- Defect Monitoring and Documentation: Maintain and update a repetitive defect database. Review strip records from manufacturers and vendors, generate historical reports, and benchmark findings against industry standards.
- Deferred Defects Management: Monitor and control acceptable deferred defects (ADDS), ensuring accuracy and timely resolution to reduce costs associated with dispensations by the industry regulator (KCAA).
- Root Cause Analysis: Conduct defect, delay, and event investigations to establish root causes and recommend corrective or preventive actions for conditions that exceed alert limits.
- End-of-Life Part Management: Research, evaluate, and approve alternate sources for replacing End-of-Life (EOL) parts to sustain operational efficiency.
- Technical Support: Provide technical expertise and support to the maintenance team, ensuring safe, effective, and cost-efficient operations.
- Reporting: Prepare and submit Component Failure Reports, Non-incident statements, and other technical documentation required by regulators and management.
- Continuous Improvement: Develop and refine standard analysis methods and processes to enhance component reliability. Submit recommendations focused on safety, reliability, and cost control.
- Data Management: Maintain a database of potential reliability and operational efficiency initiatives, track implementation progress, and ensure accountability.
- Safety and Compliance: Report hazards, near misses, and incidents in accordance with company procedures. Promote a safe and secure work environment that aligns with company, regulatory, and legislative requirements.
- Environmental Stewardship: Support the implementation of the Environmental Management System (EMS) within your department and the wider organisation.
- Other Duties: Undertake any additional responsibilities as assigned to support the smooth operation of the department and the company.
Education and Experience Requirements
To be considered for this position, applicants must meet the following criteria:
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Aeronautical Engineering or equivalent from a recognised institution.
- KCSE Mean grade of C+ or higher, with at least a C+ in Mathematics, Physics, and English.
- Proficiency in office software and computer applications.
- Knowledge of data analysis is advantageous.
- Familiarity with Power BI is an added advantage.
- Demonstrated knowledge of KCAA regulations and reliability engineering concepts.
Experience
- At least 3 years of proven experience in a reliability department.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel.
- Ability to deliver technical and business briefings to internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong decision-making skills with the ability to evaluate risks and implement timely solutions.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety, compliance, and operational excellence.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across diverse teams and locations.
- Exceptional organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage workload priorities under pressure.
