Job Summary

The Area Sales Manager will be responsible for building and developing a high-performing Bancassurance sales team. This includes embedding performance development, delivering coaching, and ensuring the team meets and exceeds sales targets. The successful candidate will provide leadership, strategy, and oversight to drive growth in Bancassurance products, with a focus on motor, non-motor, and medical insurance.


Key Job Responsibilities

1. Supervision of Bancassurance Officers (30%)

  • Act as an enabler to Bancassurance Officers by equipping them with the necessary tools and information to maximize sales.
  • Delegate effectively to meet annual sales targets while monitoring daily, weekly, quarterly, and annual performance.
  • Provide structured coaching and feedback to improve results.
  • Agree on individual product targets for motor, non-motor, and medical insurance.
  • Manage team attendance in line with HR policies, including leave approval and disciplinary matters when required.
  • Track daily field activities and ensure meeting plans are executed effectively.
  • Motivate staff and ensure recognition through Absa’s recognition schemes.
  • Identify and address training needs, ensuring compulsory learning programs are completed.
  • Participate in recruitment, induction, and compliance training of new Bancassurance Officers.
  • Oversee adherence to compensation plans and performance management frameworks.

2. Manage Business Production & Achieve Sales Targets (40%)

  • Supervise product promotion campaigns, including distributing materials and delivering training sessions for staff.
  • Cascade product knowledge, including new updates and application form procedures.
  • Monitor sales on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis, sharing results with Regional Sales Managers.
  • Ensure consistent achievement of sales targets across the region.

3. Business Expansion (10%)

  • Partner with Regional Sales Managers to unlock opportunities in companies through activations and financial training.
  • Lead efforts to secure new company sign-ups for Bancassurance products.
  • Drive business development strategies to expand product uptake and market share.

4. Operational Rigour, Compliance & Controls (10%)

  • Ensure all activities comply with regulatory requirements, the Enterprise-Wide Risk Management Framework, and Absa policies.
  • Oversee accuracy and quality of all account applications, loan documents, card applications, and related customer documentation.
  • Achieve operational rigour excellence to maintain high audit ratings.
  • Ensure compliance with operational risk controls, including KYC, anti-money laundering, health and safety, and branch security standards.
  • Manage leave, reporting, and performance records of Lead Generators.
  • Ensure effective exit management procedures for departing staff.

5. Contribution to Team Development (5%)

  • Share knowledge, experience, and best practices with other Sales Managers and team members.
  • Provide cover for other Sales Managers during heavy workloads or absences.
  • Support the broader business by contributing insights, strategies, and operational improvements.
  • Deputize for the Regional Sales Manager when required.

6. Personal Development (5%)

  • Agree on annual performance objectives with the Regional Sales Manager, including specific sales targets.
  • Continuously improve through participation in training and development programs.
  • Engage actively in career growth opportunities offered through the Absa Career Development Portal.
