Main Purpose of the Role
The TVET Trainer will be responsible for instructing, mentoring, and evaluating students in specific technical and health-related courses, ensuring that training meets the standards of the curriculum and occupational guidelines. The trainer will provide both theoretical and practical instruction while fostering a supportive learning environment that encourages growth, confidence, and competence among students.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
As a TVET Trainer at Amref International University, your role will encompass a diverse range of responsibilities that combine academic delivery, mentorship, and student development. Your tasks will include:
- Teaching and Instruction
- Deliver lectures and practical sessions in your area of expertise.
- Ensure that course delivery strictly adheres to the approved curriculum and occupational standards.
- Teach both common and core units, including community health, counselling psychology, project management, social work & community development, and health records.
- Curriculum and Lesson Planning
- Prepare detailed schemes of work and lesson plans for assigned units.
- Develop engaging lecture notes and instructional materials.
- Adapt teaching methodologies to meet the diverse needs of learners.
- Practical Training and Assessments
- Conduct and assess practical sessions to ensure learners gain hands-on skills.
- Prepare, administer, and grade internal examinations.
- Ensure exam validation processes are followed in line with institutional and external requirements.
- Carry out continuous assessments and document learner progress.
- Supervision and Mentorship
- Guide trainees during their industrial attachments, ensuring they acquire industry-relevant skills.
- Mentor and support students in both academic and personal development.
- Monitor class attendance and promote discipline and responsibility among students.
- Examinations and Records
- Prepare trainees for external examinations by equipping them with both theoretical and practical skills.
- Maintain accurate training records, including exam results, attendance registers, and assessment outcomes.
- Adhere to all exam preparation, administration, and processing schedules.
- Institutional Engagement
- Attend all assigned class contact hours consistently.
- Invigilate both internal and external examinations.
- Contribute to quality assurance processes as required by AmIU, TVET CDACC, KNEC, or other relevant bodies.
Qualifications
To qualify for this role, applicants must demonstrate both academic and technical competencies that align with TVET training standards. The requirements include:
- A Degree or Diploma in the relevant technical area from a recognized institution.
- Ability to teach across multiple common and core units, including community health, counselling psychology, project management, social work & community development, and health records.
- A Certificate in Pedagogy (Teaching Strategies) or formal registration with the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA) as a Trainer.
- Knowledge of KNEC/CDACC examination procedures and standards.
Experience
- At least two (2) years of relevant teaching experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in both theory and practical training in your field of specialization.
- Proven experience in mentoring, coaching, and supporting learners in diverse educational settings.
