Job Overview
The Machine Operator will be responsible for the smooth operation, maintenance, and monitoring of packaging filling machines used in the production of milk, yoghurt, lala, and other dairy products. This individual will play a critical role in ensuring that all machines operate effectively, safely, and in compliance with quality standards.
The successful candidate will be hands-on, detail-oriented, and capable of working both independently and collaboratively within the production team.
Key Responsibilities
The role of Machine Operator at Kinangop Dairy Limited is comprehensive, covering machine handling, quality control, maintenance, and strict adherence to safety standards. Below is a detailed outline of the core duties:
- Machine Maintenance and Operation
- Carry out routine preventive maintenance on packaging filling machines, including pneumatic systems, film feed, product feed, and sealing assemblies.
- Adjust machines during changeovers or to meet varying production requirements.
- Report any malfunctions promptly to supervisors for timely resolution.
- Record Keeping and Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of operational, mechanical, and electrical activities.
- Keep detailed logs of all activities, machine adjustments, and quality checks conducted during shifts.
- Product Packaging and Quality Control
- Monitor the smooth running of machines to minimize leakages in pouches, packets, bottles, and cups.
- Ensure that packaging of milk, yoghurt, and lala meets required quantity limits.
- Verify that all packages are properly coded with clear and legible dates.
- Conduct routine quality checks to ensure positive release of products before distribution.
- Hygiene and Safety
- Perform effective Cleaning-in-Place (C.I.P.) and sterilization processes on all machines.
- Handle and store packaging materials in a hygienic manner at all times.
- Ensure compliance with occupational safety and health regulations.
- Follow strict safety practices in both machine operation and maintenance.
- Material Handling and Storage
- Confirm that adequate packaging materials and supplies are available to complete production runs.
- Monitor and record packaging material waste for accountability and improvement.
- Properly store and secure working tools after use to maintain order and prevent loss.
- Collaboration and Communication
- Liaise with the Production Supervisor on required quantities of milk and other products to be packed.
- Work closely with colleagues to meet daily production targets.
- Provide clear feedback on machine performance and improvement opportunities.
- Additional Duties
- Perform any other tasks as assigned by the supervisor to support overall production goals.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required
To succeed in this role, the Machine Operator must demonstrate technical knowledge, industry experience, and strong interpersonal skills. The ideal candidate will possess the following:
- A Diploma or Certificate in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
- A Diploma in Food Science & Technology or a Certificate in Dairy Technology.
- At least 2 years of experience working in a manufacturing setup, with prior exposure to dairy processing being an added advantage.
- Competence in problem-solving, team building, planning, and decision-making.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong attention to detail, coupled with commitment to hygiene, quality, and safety.
