Job Summary
The Product and Ideation Manager – Transactional Banking and Digital Sales is a pivotal role within Old Mutual, tasked with driving the design, implementation, and optimization of digital banking products. These include Payments, Digital Lending, Collections, and Customer Onboarding.
As the digital thought leader, you will guide cross-functional teams through agile product cycles, from ideation to launch, ensuring that every product is competitive, relevant, and customer-centric. You will be expected to collaborate with multiple internal stakeholders—including IT, Relationship Management, Retail Banking, and Strategy—while also engaging external vendors and partners to push innovation boundaries.
Your role will not only influence Old Mutual’s digital product portfolio but also position the organization as a market leader in providing seamless, secure, and customer-friendly transactional solutions. Ultimately, you will champion innovation, service excellence, and financial growth while ensuring compliance with banking regulations and risk frameworks.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
1. Product Development and Ideation (50%)
- Ensure that Payments, Digital Lending, and Collections products are scoped, approved, and delivered within set timelines and budgets.
- Act as the digital product lead during regular reviews to ensure solutions remain competitive in a fast-changing banking landscape.
- Lead cross-functional teams through the complete cycle: product design, prototyping, user testing, and market launch.
- Translate customer insights and market trends into actionable features that improve user experience and product adoption.
- Oversee agile development cycles, guaranteeing timely achievement of milestones while keeping the big picture in sight.
- Collaborate with UX/UI designers, engineers, and stakeholders to refine product vision and ensure readiness for market.
- Partner with Branches, MSME, SME, Community RMs, and Business Banking teams to embed transaction banking and digital solutions effectively.
- Spearhead product sales activities, championing initiatives that stimulate business growth and customer engagement.
- Optimize resource use to maintain competitive, efficient, and market-ready solutions.
2. Business Planning and Strategy (25%)
- Develop comprehensive product proposals and presentations for both internal approvals and external client pitching.
- Partner with developers, vendors, and fintech partners to continuously innovate and co-design competitive products.
- Serve as the primary reference point for clients and the bank on digital product innovation and initiatives.
- Implement e-banking and transaction banking solutions for diverse clients with varying levels of complexity.
- Conduct pricing assessments to recommend guidelines that balance competitiveness and revenue growth.
3. Service Management (15%)
- Implement transaction and digital banking solutions tailored to client needs and ensure smooth onboarding.
- Motivate and guide team members, fostering an environment of innovation and collaboration.
- Proactively reduce implementation cycle times by identifying bottlenecks and driving process efficiency.
- Coordinate quick resolution of product-related issues within agreed turnaround times (TATs).
- Provide Management Information System (MIS) reports and progress metrics, highlighting successes, challenges, and opportunities.
- Act as a bridge between clients, relationship managers, and sales teams, ensuring seamless service delivery.
4. Cost Containment (10%)
- Achieve strong Return on Equity (ROE) by maximizing product profitability and wallet share.
- Ensure prudent resource management, such as optimizing travel and event-related expenses.

- Meet or exceed digital strategy targets set by the bank, with quarterly reviews to track progress.
Innovation
- Participate in innovation forums with vendors, IT teams, and management to ensure Old Mutual remains at the forefront of digital banking.
Compliance
- Fully comply with internal policies and procedures while ensuring adherence to Risk and Audit requirements.
- Regularly review and refine digital banking strategies to match or surpass industry standards.
Training and Knowledge Sharing
- Conduct regular staff training sessions on digital products.
- Develop Customer Value Propositions (CVPs) for the sales team to use during client engagements.
Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Expectation
The role carries a significant responsibility in ensuring strict adherence to Compliance, AML, and Sanctions policies. This includes:
- Implementing Know Your Customer (KYC) standards.
- Conducting ongoing and enhanced due diligence.
- Monitoring for unusual activities or potential breaches.
- Escalating suspicious findings to the Risk and Compliance Office for immediate action.
Qualifications and Experience
- University degree in Business, Sales, IT, or related fields (minimum of Second-Class Honors).
- A Master’s degree is an added advantage.
- Professional qualifications in IT or Project Management are advantageous.
- At least 5 years’ experience in digital or transaction banking, cash management product development, or related fields.
- Relevant certifications in Sales or Project Management will be considered a plus.
Skills, Knowledge & Competencies
- Strong proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Access).
- In-depth understanding of Digital and Cash Management products such as mobile banking, internet banking, host-to-host integration, card business, and digital lending.

- Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
- Highly organized, with strong skills in planning, budgeting, and data analysis.
- Tech-savvy with the ability to adapt to new tools and digital solutions quickly.
