Job Purpose
The OPD and A&E Nurse In-Charge will oversee the overall coordination, supervision, and delivery of high-quality nursing care within the Outpatient and Accident & Emergency departments. This position ensures that care standards meet both internal and national healthcare regulations while promoting an efficient, compassionate, and safe patient environment. The role also entails managing staff performance, resource allocation, and clinical quality while fostering teamwork and continuous improvement.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Leadership and Operational Management
- Provide daily supervision, guidance, and mentorship to nursing and support staff within the departments.
- Ensure optimal staffing levels, prepare fair duty rosters, and maintain balanced workload distribution.
- Promote discipline, professional accountability, and effective teamwork across all shifts.
- Maintain efficient patient flow from triage to discharge while minimizing waiting times.
Clinical and Service Excellence
- Supervise and ensure delivery of high-quality clinical care that aligns with established protocols and emergency care standards.

- Oversee operations within the Minor Theatre, ensuring readiness, proper scheduling, and resource optimization.

Departmental Growth and Revenue Optimization
- Support initiatives to increase patient visits, enhance service utilization, and improve departmental efficiency.
- Contribute to the development of cost-saving strategies and workflow optimization to strengthen financial performance.
- Promote and expand revenue-generating services such as Minor Theatre procedures and wellness packages.
- Work in coordination with the Finance, Business Development, and Clinical teams to identify and implement innovative process improvements.
Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement
- Foster productive relationships with clinicians, consultants, and allied health professionals to enhance patient care.
- Promote open communication between nursing, clinical, and administrative departments for coordinated service delivery.
- Participate in interdisciplinary meetings to align departmental goals with the hospital’s strategic objectives.
Quality Assurance and Compliance
- Ensure compliance with Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK) standards and hospital quality management systems.
- Participate in clinical audits, patient safety assessments, and accreditation processes.
- Track, analyze, and report performance metrics and clinical outcomes for quality improvement.
Staff Development and Performance Management
- Conduct regular staff evaluations and identify areas requiring professional growth or training.

Minimum Requirements / Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from a recognized institution.
- Valid Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK) license.
- Minimum of five years’ nursing experience, with at least two years in a supervisory role within OPD or A&E.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
- Certification in Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) will be an added advantage.

The role promotes effective people management aligned with the hospital’s goals and culture.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Support the formulation and implementation of HR policies, ensuring compliance with relevant labor laws and hospital standards.
- Provide guidance to line managers on HR policy interpretation and employee relations management.
- Participate in the recruitment process by preparing job adverts, conducting long-listing and short-listing of candidates, and ensuring gender balance and diversity in hiring.
- Facilitate employee onboarding through structured orientation and training programs.
- Process payroll changes and maintain accurate employee compensation records in a timely manner.
- Verify and compile locum staff information submitted by department heads for processing.
- Ensure proper leave management in line with the hospital’s policies.
- Support performance management and disciplinary procedures as guided by the HR Manager.
- Maintain up-to-date and confidential employee records and documentation.

Minimum Requirements / Qualifications
